Has anyone been to the National Museum of American History
in Washington DC to see their collection of clocks and watches?
The Ellicott clock is a must see and one of my favorites!
Joseph Ellicott
Musical Tall Case Clock 1769
A masterpiece of eighteenth-century American clock making, this tall case clock was built by Joseph Ellicott, a Quaker millwright and mechanic. The Ellicott family donated this horological treasure, long sought by curators, to the National Museum of American History in 1999.
On three separate dials, it tells the time and shows the phases of the moon; depicts on an orrery the motions of the sun, moon, and planets; and plays selected 24 musical tunes on the hour.
