The West Virginia State Museum has received
a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award.

With more than 6,000 artifacts on display and themes that focus on the state’s lands, people and culture, the West Virginia State Museum offers a dynamic look at our state’s history, from prehistoric times to today. The WV museum, founded in 1894, is recognized as one of the premier institutions in the United States and includes a collection of more than 60,000 pieces.

The West Virginia State Museum, located in the Culture Center at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston West Virginia, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Has anyone visited Charleston WestVa

We really liked Charleston, WV, although we only spent a day there. We wandered the State Capitol Complex a bit and did the State Museum, which was pretty nice. Although what I most liked was the temporary quilt exhibit. But there were some good permanent exhibits that I can still remember -- one on the Hawks Nest Tunnel Disaster, one on the New River Gorge, and the ones on local artists, authors, and potters.

I had not realized how pretty West Virginia is. Kept hearing that old John Denver tune in my head. We hope to get back and spend some more time there.
