it is family orientated, alive, maybe too much in the wee hours of the night. But otherwise decent

I've never been to Virginia Beach.
Do they have cold winters?

I have not been there in a few years, but it was not to loud or crazy and it was August so tourist season was in full swing. As for the winters I do not think they are cold, but I live near Buffalo NY work outdoors and don't wear a coat during our winters. I was in Williamsburg(an hour north of Virginia Beach) about 5 years ago at Christmas and the temps were about 55 to 60 degrees.

Winters are not "cold" by NY standards. It's a great climate for golfers, warm enough to golf most of the year. But NOT beach weather in winter unless you like a brisk walk with a jacket on.
