    Death Toll Rises in Va. Shooting at Virginia Tech.....

    The details are still sketchy, as this is breaking news.....

    BLACKSBURG, Va. — A shooting at a Virginia Tech dorm Monday left one person dead and one wounded, a state government official with knowledge of the case told The Associated Press.

    A government official with knowledge of the shooting said the gunman had been arrested.

    The state university said on its Web site that a shooting had occurred at a residence hall and that students should stay in their homes away from windows.

    "There's just a lot of commotion. It's hard to tell exactly what's going on," said student Jason Anthony Smith, 19, who lives in the building where shooting took place.

    The shooting was reported at West Ambler Johnston Hall.

    Officials ordered the campus closed, the second time in less than a year the 26,000-student campus was shut because of a shooting.

    In August 2006, the opening day of classes was canceled and the campus closed when an escaped jail inmate allegedly killed a hospital guard off campus and fled to the Tech area. A sheriff's deputy involved in the manhunt was killed on a trail just off campus.

    The accused gunman, William Morva, faces capital murder charges.

    The news is now reporting that at least 20 people have been killed!!!! Another 28 injured!!! How terrible!!!!

    The shooter is being described as a young man of college age. He too, is being reported dead.

    Full confirmation has not been given on this story.

          Frank.....What a horrible story. My heart goes out to these students, and their families. I can't even imagine, what they are going through, or how they must feel. It makes you want to cry!

            Oh no. I'm teary eyed. In fact I just met a gal in Miami last week who was on break, she goes to school there. We joked about Blacksburg. I just feel terrible and hope she is safe. What a tragedy for those students, their families and that school. My thoughts and prayers go out to them today.

              Unconfirmed at 21 dead now (per the AP). I just can't get my head and/or heart around this.

                Just heard 22 dead and maybe more. The shooter shot himself.

                  I often wonder if we should include the shooter(s) in the death count ? No answer here. Just like at Columbine. I have to agree with the two memorial trees that were pulled up & out which represented the shooters at Columbine.
                  It's a matter of separating the victims from the victimizer, the murdered from the murderer.

                      I've been following this since 10:00 am. Very tragic. We know kids who go to VTech.

                      Foxnew: BLACKSBURG, Va. — At least 32 people are confirmed dead and at least another 21 are wounded after a shooting at Virginia Tech University Monday morning, federal law enforcement officials told FOX News.

                      ABCnews: At least 29 people are dead in what may be the biggest mass shooting in American history — and the death toll may rise. At least 17 injured students were admitted to local hospitals.

                      Reports are the gunman had two 9MM guns.

                          The count is now over 30 dead Very sad.

                          Having grown up in Virginia and most recently working with an association of academics (ag economists), I know a lot of people at Tech. I sure hope they are all safe!!

                              MY SIL lives in VA. When she was here last week during Easter break. I think this was the School she told my son to go to. I could be wrong about this being the same School.
