Crowded, lots of units. A bit closer to things than the Manor house.

      Grocery Store near?

Is there a grocery store close to this resort?

Yes! There are three(3) less than eight miles away (Ukrop, Farm Fresh and a Super-Wal) round trip.

Stuff I’ve seen posted on TripAdvisor

Review 1 The jacuzzi was located in the guest bedroom and not the master bedroom.
There is one outdoor pool, and one indoor pool for the entire resort.
One night a week, they close the outdoor pool for a teen pool party, that leaves only the indoor pool for swimming. The problem with this is that the kids who don't go to the party all end up in the indoor pool, and it turns into a free for all. There are so many people in the indoor pool, it is impossible to even attempt to swim.
It woulld also be nice if the resort had a small store as well as a small restaurant or snack bar.
The decks on the units are very small and only have 2 chairs.

We were contacted 3 times to attend the "Survey" of the resort. The first time they offered a free breakfast, the second time tickets to Busch Gardens, and the third time they offered to refund us our exchange fee. We declined each time.
As mentioned in another review, we did have a snake and some lizards on the deck of our unit. I don't know if the person who wrote that review realizes that snakes and lizards live outdoors in the wild!!! We also had birds in the trees!!! Maybe the resort can spray the entire area so that any form of wildlife is eliminated!!! My kids loved the lizards, and it kept them amused whenever they showed up.

Overall we had a very enjoyable time in Williamsburg. There is plenty to do in the area, and the location of the resort is fairly close to everything. It wasn't the best place I've ever stayed at, but it was more than adequate for our needs.

Review 2 The humongous spa, as well as wood sauna in the middle of the second bathroom was like no other. Our kitchen had a full stove and all necessary cleaning products, as well as a washer/dryer in the bathroom. The unit was the size of a regular two-bedroom condo, even with separate buildings and parking like a condo complex.

We enjoyed the outdoor pool greatly a few days, didn't use the indoor pool, and my teen son had a wonderful time at the weekly teen pool party.

I would give it a five star rating if it had, say, a golf course or restaurant included, but it was a wonderful place to stay otherwise.

One big vacation tip: Despite the pain that the timeshare sales presentations are, there is one put on by Westgate, sign up at the Golden Corral restaurant on Bypass Road, and request the $10 Busch Gardens tickets for four, total of $40. It will save you $172 off full admission and we found it to be well worth the inconvenience of the presentation for a very poor property that didn't come close to the Plantation property. We figured they paid us $60 an hour to say no, thank you.

Also, you can see quite a bit of Colonial Williamsburg without paying anything. The tickets are just for admission into some of the buildings which our kids had no interest in anyway. Also, the BBQ restaurant there was a huge hit and very affordable.

We also went up to Washington, D.C. for two days, one night, and over to Yorktown for a beautiful drive. Overall a very nice trip and a beautiful resort that made for a very pleasurable trip.

Review 3 The kitchen was well stocked and included Palmolive, several small boxes of Tide, dishwasher detergent, dish towels, cutting board, blender, etc. The kitchen did not include a stove, but we had no plans to cook in the unit, so it didn't matter to us.

The beds were very comfortable. There were plenty of towels, pillows, etc., and everything was clean. We commented several times that it would have slept 4 people extremely comfortable, and probably 6 people, even though it would be a little more crowded with 6.

We didn't use the pools, but they both looked very nice. Everything was very clean.

We called the front desk several times looking for information on places to see or directions to certain areas of town, and we were very pleased with how pleasant and helpful everyone was.

My husband and I would definitely stay at Williamsburg Plantation again. In fact, we have already inquired in returning with our two sons and their wives in the next year

Review 4 We were very pleased with the accommodations. The rooms were big and very clean. The staff was very friendly. The welcome package they supplied had directions to attractions, restaurants, movie theater, shopping and anywhere else you would want to go.
          Robert

I tend to not put as much relience on Tripadvisor for timeshare reviews, good and bad, as I would here an OY. Mostly because you'll get reviews from people who have rented without understanding some of the differences between a timeshare and a hotel. For instance, the person who said they'd have given it a 5 star rating if it had a golf course and a restaurant. Very few 5 star timeshares have a golf course and many don't have much more than someplace to grab a pizza or burgers and fries for a restaurant. Yet, a five star hotel will generally have a really nice restaurant, shops and other amenities you might not find at a timeshare. On the other hand people who are use to hotel rooms are overwhelmed by any timeshare that provides them with two bedrooms yet they were able to rent for only $100/night. Even if it's not that great of a timeshare by timeshare standards.

Of course, you also have to understand I don't aways put a lot of enphesis on timeshare reviews both here and OY either. I find you have to read between the lines as there is so many different likes and dislikes amongst us that it's hard to tell if it's just a personal thing or if it's an overall issue with the resort. I read one review that said what a horrible resort it was because someone had backed into their van and the resort refused to pay for the repairs. Hard to put a lot of faith in someone who believes a business should be responsible for car accidents on their property when it didn't seem to have anything to do with the resort and everything to do with another guests bad driving.

Do they have free high speed internet?

The best bet might be to give them a call after making a note of all your questions. If you take a right out of the resort and then the first right it will take you to Richmond road and there's one or 2 supermarkets there along with a bunch of restaurants and outlet stores.

They have free high speed internet - wireless in the clubhouse only.

I presume you're referring to Powhatan Plantation? Crowded resort. Parking can be a problem believe it or not. Outdated furnishings. My uncle owns two weeks there and he now hates it. However, you may get one of the newer units which are nicer.

Two options for grocery stores. One is in Monticello Shopping Center on Monticello Ave. Coming out of the resort, turn left (Ironbound Rd). Go down about a mile to News Rd (theres a big park/ball field on the left) and make another left. You'll see all the stores. That shopping center also has some fast food joints among the usual strip mall stores. Don't miss the Cold Stone Creamery across the street! Yum, yum! *LOL*

The other option is to make a right coming out of the resort. Go down about 2miles to Rte. 5 (John Tyler Hwy). The grocery store is at that intersection although kind of hard to see. If you just cross over Rte 5, it'll be on the left. This store isn't as busy/crowded as the other option. Hope this helps!

                      ????

Two rights out of the complex would put you on Rte. 5, not 60 (Richmond Rd)!

From the main entrance you will turn left.

Correct. Left out of the complex, left onto News Rd., right onto Monticello Ave. and that ends @ Rte 60/Richmond Rd (about 3 or 4 miles). I've been goin there for more than 40 years...all of my family is from there.

Oh, by the way, there's a new Williamsburg Town Center on Monticello also. You can find movie theatres there.

                              Tony,
this one had me going so I looked it up on II's website. Guess what? Neither one of us is right! It's a completely new t/s development! Address is 4870 Longhill Rd. So now there are three 'Plantations' in Williamsburg. Greensprings Plantation, Powhatan Plantation, and now Williamsburg Plantation (who's naming these places anyway?!?!)

Anyway, this def. means a correction is in order!

                              Grocery store. Again, two options.
Option one: A left out of complex onto Longhill Rd. Take Longhill to Rte. 199. Go south on 199 one exit to Monticello Ave. Make a right at the end of the ramp. Shopping is on the right.

Option 2: A left out of the complex onto Longhill Rd. Take Longhill to Rte 199 and go NORTH one exit to Rte. 60/Richmond Rd. this will dump you off into Lightfoot near the pottery shop. Just get off here and you'll find plenty of shopping, resturants, etc.

Hope this helps. Sorry about the confusion!
