Can't you take a right off Longhill road at (I think) Ford's Colony Road and end up at Richmond Road where there is a Food Lion supermarket in a shopping plaza ?

Yup. Sure can. That'll take you past Lafyette High School (alumni includes Lawrence Taylor, Bruce Hornsby, among other notables *LOL*).
Right out of complex onto Longhill. Go to Centreville Rd (Rte. 614) and make another right. Take you right to 60 (Richmond Rd.). 199 is quicker though.
