Alone in Williamsburg

I have found myself with some unexpected time off from work. As a mother of a three-year old, I'm anxious for a little getaway. I'm a history buff and have never been to Williamsburg...just snagged a one bedroom at the MMC Sequel for a 6/10 Check in. I'm thinking that I'll do a little biking, maybe some golf, see Jamestown, Williamsburg, hang out by the pool and read a book or two. Also scout out timeshares for future trips. Since this is before school actually gets out in the NE, (which is why the husband and daughter can't come), that it might not be kiddieland.

Am I dreaming or on the right track here? Am I crazy to go someplace as family-oriented as Williamsburg by myself? (If they were with me I would never be able to spend the time at Jamestown that I want to). Also, the one-bedrooms have the washer/dryer, right? The lockoff portion is a studio isn't it?

Also, is there a good day spa that you guys would recommend?

I think you'll have a great time. Go and enjoy yourself!

My wife would like me to go there by myself just so I could do all the things you mentioned, especially the history stuff (which does not interest her). Occasioanlly I travel without her. I always consider these trips as scouting trips so that when we return I can optimize her time. Do the exploring that I like on my time and see the high points when we both return.

Only if you think I was crazy to go to Disney World by myself.
I had THE BEST time, did what I wanted when I wanted, ate when I wanted to eat, you get the idea. My kids were 13 + 15 and alone time was long overdo. Go and enjoy, it sounds perfect. I went to Wmburg and Jamestown with the family, and felt shortchanged with time too...so I can understand that aspect as well. .

Are you going to be there for a full week? If so, being a history buff, I'd advise that you get the Independence Pass. When we went 1 1/2 years ago, it got us into all of the buildings in Colonial Williamsburg, as many daily walks as we wanted to take, and evening shows, which were fun and entertaining, such as judging a witch trial, becoming part of the militia, and so on. We also were able to tour the Rockefeller house and the headquarters of Colonial Williamsburg. Well worth the cost. In fact, we felt that with what we might have paid for the evening programs alone, it paid for itself.

In Jamestown, go to the state park as well as historic Jamestown. We really enjoyed both. You can also walk around Georgetown and drive through the encampments.

We truly had a wonderful time - and my husband hadn't realized how much he enjoyed history until we went.

Thanks so much...my husband would want to go to the amusement parks and ride the rides. He wants me to go too, so that I can get all of this history stuff done without him!

If you're a history buff, you'll love it this year. It's the Jamestown 400 year anniversary. That's why the Queen of England came to visit. You'll love it. Like somebody else said, get that Independence pass and go for it! And don't forget Yorktown (Welcome to Historic Yorktown, Virginia) and Norfolk (45 minutes down I-64) which is rich in history too. I'm there every year but I've never heard of MMC Sequel?

Just got here yesterday - a couple days late

Manor Club is great...there is a spa right here and I'm booked for a massage this evening. Off to Jamestown this am.

I have a great little screened in porch and a huge Jacuzzi tub...free wireless too. Resort is beautiful...only suggestion that I have for them so far is purely cosmetic...way too much furniture in here! Eveyone says that the Sequel units are newer but smaller...sure, it could be bigger, but if they just got rid of a chair or two and decreased the size of the tables it would be fine. I guess with the lockoff you need furniture for six...that's the problem.

Anyway, I'm in the "sleep four" side of the lockoff...since it's just me, I have plenty of room!

Holly: Oh ok. Ford's is a short distance from Jamestown. 5 or 6 miles maybe?

riverdees: Where did you stay in W-burg? I just found out there are now 3t/s 'Plantations' (Greensprings P,Powhatan P, and Williamsburg P)!

I have no qualms of traveling by myself. That way I can be selfish to me!! If I want to do something I do it. A suggestion, when you are at Jamestown take the ferry over to Surry and eat at the Surrey House. Have fun!! shaggy
