4BR at Williamsburg Plantation 7/4: Keeper?

Looking ahead to summer 09 I came up with a 4BR at Williamsburg Plantation with a Fourth of July check-in. What do you all think?

It would be my wife and three children (B9,G6,B5) and my parents. I don't know if 7/4 is a good thing with fireworks and special events or if it will just make it ridiculously crowded. I would like to take the family to Williamsburg at some point and this seems like a good opportunity with the 4BR. Plus being a teacher, I would end up taking them in the summer anyway. Just not sure about the holiday week.

Doing a search here, I was able to find some great links that Spence provided. Any comments on the resort, timeframe or must do/avoid?

4 br at that time in that area, Grab it. I had heard good things about it years ago I sent a friend there and they liked it. I think Marty might have been there check with her.

I have been to Williamsburg over 4th of July. The Water Park and Bush gardens are still great and not as crowded as Orlando or Great Adventure.
I think Bush Gardens is one of the better planned parks in the country regarding shade. Check AAA for Parkhoppers between the two. They had the best deals when I went.

Is Williamsburg humid? Yes but so is the whole eastern corridor.

Can't speak to the resort, I'm sure others can, but we really enjoyed the trip.

Also enjoyed the one day trip to VA Beach.

ETA The traffic will be really really bad over the holiday weekend. Think about going thru Delaware and over the Chesapeak Bridge & Tunnel if you aren't afraid of heights.

Go for it ! I would prefer non-summer when it is cooler or less crowded, but with the kids it should be a great time to go. I believe the 4 brs. are 1st and second floor 2br. lockoffs.

Yes, Tony that is how they described them. Full kitchen downstairs 1BR w/ King bed 1BR w/ Queen and the same upstairs only no oven.

Timing is Good!

Don't know the resort, but we make it a point to be there for July 4th every year! The kids particularly love the fireworks and fun at Busch Gardens then. Yes, its more crowded that week - everything is generally sold out - but its a blast! We'll be there!!!!

We were there in July last year. We went home that way and it took us 11 hours! (Craig lives near me). But the Bridge/Tunnel is something to be seen if you haven't before.

Well I'm 90% in but now jackio has me a little concerned when she brings up 11 hours! When traveling, my kids have about 3 hours before their internal clock tells them it's time for a meltdown.

We've pushed it a little at times but it's never good. We've actually driven to VA Beach a few times, though. My BIL is in the Navy and was stationed there. We took the Chesapeak Bay Bridge tunnel each time and had to stop every few hours.

But I'm sure I'll work something out. This really seems like a good opportunity. Maybe I can combine it with a night or two in Washington DC...perhaps at the Fairfield Alexandria.

When we did it, we stayed overnight in Baltimore on the way down, and in D.C. on the way back up (we're in northern NJ). Got some great deals on the hotels on Priceline. (PM me if I can help on that.) You can take the kids to the aquarium in Baltimore and some of the attractions in DC, too.

The aquarium is my favorite! It's expensive, though. If your family likes aquariums, you might do what we did and get a family membership on the way down, then stop back and visit again on the way back up. The aquarium gets crowded during the daytime, but if you have a membership and you're staying a few days, you can go back in the late afternoons, when it's less crowded.

Also there's baseball in Baltimore, and two major art galleries, depending on what your family likes. And of course the Inner Harbor is just fun to hang around. And there's a fantastic children's museum there, too.
