    best ticket prices

Does anyone know of any special deals or promo codes for Williamsburg tickets ? I need to buy 7 for this year's trip so every little bit helps. Best deal I've found so far is the Busch Gardens Williamsburg Bounce Ticket.

If you are a AAA member, check out their ticket prices. In the newsletter I got about a week ago, they were selling many of the same tickets that are offered through the tourist websites. AAA may be a little cheaper, but I didn't compare prices because we aren't going there this year. In the past, the best deal for us was the pass that allowed 7-day access to the Williamsburg colonial area plus Busch Gardens/Water Country. It didn't include parking at the parks, though. Try different combinations of ticketing. If you aren't planning on going to Jamestown or Yorktown, don't pay for a ticket that includes those sites. One year, I had thought about buying one silver passport (that included parking at Busch Gardens and Water Country) and the regular 3-for-one passes for everyone else. But the extra cost for the silver passport was more than parking for two or three days at the parks. Check out the current parking fees to determine if it's worth the cost this year. This is the site that I have used in the past to check out ticket packages: Go Williamsburg - Hotels, Tickets and Things to Do in Williamsburg, VA. My family absolutely LOVES Williamsburg. Enjoy your stay!

I'll be at Williamsburg Plantation with the extended family July 4th to July 11th. Dad took care of all the tickets so I'm not sure what kind of deal he ended up getting. When will you be there Tony?

Thanks for the post. I scrolled through to look at all the opportunities. I can't believe they charge nearly $25.00/ticket for the priority access pass (like the FAST PASS at Disney). For a family of four, that an extra $100.00 a day - much more than most people can afford when you look at the high cost of admission plus parking.

HOT !!! Didn't much notice any new shopping areas other than the place where Walmart, Lowes and others are. Drove by Parkside. Noticed that the Pottery Factory has begun a descent to oblivion.

We were in Williamsburg July 3 to 5th. Couldn't believe how empty it was! You could actually walk around on the sidewalks and take time to see things. We stayed at Powhatan and typically drive up past the new shopping areas to avoid the congestion around the colonial area. It's amazing how much has been built up in the area! Tony- you're right about the Pottery. We didn't get there this year, but last year it was a real disappointment. So sad, they used to have some really good deals there!

Colonial Parkway - Closed - Between Williamsburg and Jamestown (Virginia)

                          Date: July 24, 2009

The Colonial Parkway between Route 199/King’s Point and Route 359 (Jamestown) is closed indefinitely to through traffic due to a boating accident that severely damaged a support piling on the Powhatan Creek bridge. Engineers from the Federal Highway Administration have already performed a preliminary inspection of the damaged piling and bridge to determine the extent of the damage. They will continue a more thorough inspection next week before recommending a course of repairs.

From Williamsburg, the Parkway will remain open to traffic as far as the Jamestown Information Station to allow use of the turnouts at College Creek, Archer’s Hope and Mill Creek; however, through traffic from Williamsburg to Jamestown will need to make use of the marked detour utilizing Route 199, Jamestown Road (Route 31), and Route 359.

The National Park Service and Virginia Marine Police are investigating the damage, which was not reported by the vessel involved in the accident. Recreational boaters reported it to the National Park Service Friday afternoon.

“First and foremost, we are thankful that the Powhatan Creek bridge did not collapse beneath the weight of any vehicles prior to the discovery of the damage and that this very serious situation caused no injuries,” said Park Superintendent Dan Smith. “We recognize the importance of the Colonial Parkway to the local transportation system as well as area tourism and are working to fix the damage and reopen the Parkway as quickly and safely as possible.”

Wow, Thanks for reporting this, Marti. It sounds like it may be quite some time before the bridge is repaired. With that much damage, it's hard to believe the boater that caused the accident could have left the scene. Hopefully the person will be caught.

BTW- Anyone know if the bridge on the Colonial Parkway near Jamestown is still closed?
