  • Some Pittsburgh to do questions

We most likely will nose around some at Pittsburgh, looking at bridges and city overlooks.

Noticed a blurb on a Wagon sitting in a park, selling shaved ice. Anyone know which park?

Plan to do the incline up Mt Washington... Which restaurant has best romantic setting and that famous view?

Suggestions on where to stay for a night or two... close in for seeing the city, yet secure?

        shaved ice link found

Found the shaved ice location again. Seen it several days ago but lost the link. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_22326.html

I've been looking at links and any searching brings up more very interestings things to take in. Now it's on to choosing our romantic dining place... and a room.

        Thanks for your assistance, Marti.

Have traveled the turnpike many times over the years since 1958. Never took time to even look at Pitsburgh.

Life is passing and so much to take in.

          The Sweet Taste of Summer

Gus Kalaris and his wife, Stella (nicknamed Yia Yia, the Greek name for "grandmother"),
have been serving up hand-shaved, gourmet ice balls from this bright orange cart
with the rainbow-striped umbrella for as long as just about anyone can remember.

The stand itself has been around since 1934, or "since your Dad was a lad" -
first operated by Gus' father, George.

            Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

is anchored by the first LEED - certified
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design -

welcome center in a public garden and the world’s most
energy-efficient tropical forest conservatory. By staying true to its
original mission, Phipps is now one of America’s premier horticultural
display conservatories and a recognized leader in green building
            practices and sustainable operations.

Built by Henry Phipps in 1893 as a gift to the city of Pittsburgh,
the wealthy industrialist envisioned a place “that will prove a
source of instruction as well as pleasure to the people.”

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is easy to find. Located right
in the heart of Oakland on Schenley Drive in Schenley Park. Just look for
the big Victorian glasshouse at the top of the hill.

If a ball game would interest you, the Pirates play in a very nice stadium.
