  • Massanutten -- Woodstone or Summit?

    Hello,

I might book a summer Massanutten week and am wondering which of the two -- Woodstone or Summit -- would be best for our family. I'll have a 5 year old girl and a 17 year old boy with me -- and possibly 71 year old grandpa. I see that the waterpark is closer to Woodstone -- which would appeal to the 5 year old -- but if you stay at Woodstone, is the water park within walking distance of the units? What summer week is best to try to get? We're off school from June 13 until the week before Labor Day. And, I guess I'm wondering too -- is Massanutten a good place for 17 year boys? Is there enough to do?

    Thanks!

    Woodstone

    Hi Debbie -

The water park is not really walking distance from either, although it is closer to Woodstone. The Woodstone Units are newer and are near the main entrance/check-in area. There is a nice pool and playground right there and the water park is in the vicinity.

The Summit is in "the bowl" - it is in a more beautiful location and higher up (cooler and more stairs) but since regardless of where you stay, you will need your car, I would go with Woodstone.

Your 17 year old could spent all day at the water park (have you considered bringing a friend) and your little one will probably enjoy it too. They have a tremendous arts and crafts program (unlike any other, really), where mountain artists come to teach. I have made beautiful jewelry and woven pretty baskets in some of the classes. They also have nice crafts programs for kids. The last time we were there we painted a bird house, made a pressed glass ornament and a flower wreath. The links golf course is stunning, they have horse back riding (also near Woodstone), putt putt golf...just a ton to do. There are also some neat things nearby like Shenandoah Caverns and Luray Caverns, Civil War battle fields, tubing, etc.

We always enjoy our time at Massanutten and I'm sure you will too.

Thank you so much for this info. Are the arts and crafts closer to woodstone or summit? Sounds like Woodstone is the place though -- seeing as we might have grandpa with us

They have crafts programs in several locaitons, but I believe most were nearer to Woodstone. Don't hold me to that, though as things change. Still, I would go with Woodstone.

I prefer Summit but stairs could be a concern. The Higher the unit number the higher up the mountain you are. Alot of the unit are straight in. Do not hesitate to call and ask the resort how many stairs to the unit because they have a book and wil answer you in about a minute. Remember Summit units with full kitchen are on top. The partial kitchens are on the bottom. Once inside you have to go down the stairs to get in your unit.
