  • Powhatan Questions

It's been four years since we last stayed there, so I have some questions about changes during that time.

    1. Have all of the 2 bedroom units now been removated? If not, which ones haven't?

    2. Is there internet access in the units? If so, is it free or if pay, how much?

    3. Do all of the second bedrooms have twin beds?

    4. Are all of the 4 bedroom units the same configuration?

    TIA
    Nancy

Can't answer all your questions, but we were there in June, so I can try. I don't know if all units have been renovated, but some are newer than others. I would think the best way to find out would be to call the resort. Our family had several units for a family reunion, all 2 br, and all had twin beds. Re: internet. There was a notice that there would be a fee, but we used our laptop to go online all week and there was no charge at checkout.
    I don't know about 4 br configurations.

Good question...I think so, but not sure. We stayed at several resorts this summer and a couple of them required a cord that they loaned you, but can't remember if Powhatan was one of them.
        Congrats on the big thousand!

WiFi is free at The Grille, you can sit in the Lounge Area. There are two terminals at reception also. WiFi in the rooms in my experience is a turn key operation, log on with your credit card for like $39 for the week.

All 2BRs are part of a 4BR lockoff, doownstairs 'C' unit has hot tub, upstairs 'D' unit does not. Twins in second bedroom. There are two new buildings that are "Deluxe" with fancier furnishings and granite, etc. They are Club inventory (and Developer USE) and cost more points. There is also the building that was destroyed by fire and rebuilt to better standards than norm but not "Deluxe."

All units at Powhatan have been renovated numerous times since their inception, where they are in the current cycle, I've not kept up on, to me it's not a big deal.

All 4BR units are the same.

Many of the 2BR "D" units (upstairs and 1/2 of a 4BR) have now been upgraded to having a queen in the 2nd BR instead of twins. If you must have twins in the 2nd BR, you need to book a 1st FL 2BR unit or SPECIFY at time of reservation you want a 2nd FL unit with twins (even then, they will just "try to get it for you." There are NO guarantees).

Internet is via Wayport at both Powhatan and Greensprings (as well as numerous other DRI Resorts). If you subscribe, or use AT&T WiFi, its free, otherwise there's a charge.

Thanks for all of the replies. I have a 4 bedroom, so upstairs may have queen. That will work, but was going to offer one of twins to grandson, but he may have to make do downstairs with his siblings.

ps. Got this with RCI weeks exchange.

Spence, I was in a "C" unit in June 2009 and it has not been renovated. The carpet needed a deep cleaning.

All 2BR's are not necessarily part of 4BR, we were there this past May and had what they called a 2BR and it was 1BR down and 1BR + loft upstairs.
It was fine for us but had not been refurbished in quite a while. Nothing really wrong with it but it was showing it's wear!!

It gets complicated and even Diamond won't keep their terminology straight as a Deluxe unit could be the newer high priced units or the 'C' units with a hot tub. What you are referring to is known as a 2BR Lockoff and is the same exact footprint as the "Single8" 3BR unit, the original units at the resort.

                          1. Do not know.
                          2. Wireless - You pay! Diamond gives NOTHING away . . . like the better class facilities similar to Motel 6.
                          3. My 2 BR had a queen bed in the main bedroom and a king in the guest room.
                          4. Do not know.

I do know that at 7:00 AM one morning that someone tried to MOVE INTO our unit. Mistake at front desk but NO APOLOGY! The air intake was filthy and goose crap is everywhere. TYPICAL DIAMOND!

Spence, you are right about the terminology being complicated. Bottom line seems to be that you can't really tell exactly what your unit config is until you get there and look at it or if they will tell you over the phone.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay there and would go again.

As one poster put it "there is goose crap everywhere" but in the resorts defense most morning we found that they had sweap it off the sidewalks, although by evening it was back on again. Only way to get rid of it would be to get rid of the geese, good luck with that!

Bed config in our unit was queen in master bed downstairs, queen in upstairs bedroom and twins in upstairs loft.

Hi gophish, sounds like you had a 3 BDRM - right? If so, what kind of shape was it in? Did it have a hot tub on the lower level? Did it feel "crowded." I have a 3 BDRM reserved for next summer for 8, so we'll be using the sleeper sofa. I'm a little concerned it may be cramped, but we generally spend little time in the unit, except for sleeping and an occassional meal. Your input would be greatly appreciated!
