Looks like we will be heading up to Branson in June to use our HH week. I just got the ok from my doc that I can take my vacations this summer. So now, what is new going on in Branson? We haven't been there in a while.
I think you'll find that it's pretty much the same ol' Branson it's always been. There's still SDC, T-shirt shops and outlet malls, mini-golf and enough go-cart tracks to choke a mule. Celebration City closed it's doors for good a year or two ago. There's still not any really good restaurants in town other than the chain restaurants. Most of the shows seem to be the same with a few minor changes here and there. The Branson airport is open for business now. Other than that, I can't think of anything new or exciting.
Our trip to Branson is planned for Sept. 23-30 this year. Anyone know what kind of weather we can expect?. We'll be staying at the Marriott resort. Can you walk to the shows and restaurants from there or is it better to drive the short distance? What are some of the best shows and do tickets need to be purchased far in advance? Is Lamberts Cafe much of a drive from there? Any other suggestions for restaurants or activities? 6 adults(3 couples) are going, no children.
We flew from California to Springfield and rented a car to drive to Branson. The original Bass Pro Shop is in Springfield and is worth seeing a 'themed' store. The drive to Branson naturally included lunch at Lamberts but it was really busy even at 11am. Branson Landing is a new retail complex on the river. The Shack downtown (if it is still open) had the best fried chicken. You will have a great time.
I'll be there in early Aug. When I was last in Branson, I was there over the 4th of July 2006holiday period. The two things I remember, heavy traffic in town and hot.
Hopefully this year it will be a little cooler and less traffic which will allow us to explore the area.

Lamberts is off of Hwy 65, located in the town of Ozark. It takes about 20-25 minutes to drive from the Branson entrance/exit (Hwy 76 intersection on Hwy 65) to get to Ozark. Hwy 76 is the main strip through Branson.

I hate to disappoint you but August isn't going to be any cooler and I doubt there will be any less traffic. If you didn't use the alternate traffic relief routes the last time I'd give them a shot when you're there in August. It's further around but saves that stop and go traffic on Hwy 76.

I think it's about 30 miles north of Branson. That would probably put it at about a 20 to 25 minute drive once you get to the highway. Getting to the highway could take 20 to 25 minutes from the Marriott depending on traffic and whether or not you use one of the traffic relief routes or drive straight down 76 Hwy.
Lambert's is a fun restaurant to eat at and it can be EXTREMELY busy during the summer season at regular meal times. Go early unless you feel like wait.
Another oddity about Lambert's is they don't take credit cards. Either bring cash or a check book.
Personally, I've never thought the food was all that great. It's not bad but I've never felt that it was worth a 30 minute wait. I will say they have some of the best rolls I've eaten at a restaurant and that alone is worth the price of admission.
Remember, it's all you can eat. Even for your main course. If you leave hungry you have no one to blame but yourself.
As for walking to the shows I guess it depends on how much you enjoy walking. I don't consider Marriott's property within walking distance to very many things. There's a mini golf and a couple of restaurants that are probably walkable but I don't believe any of the shows would be considered within walking distance.
I can't comment on the availability of tickets. We don't go to a lot of shows but when we do, we just pick up tickets from the resort conceirge at whatever resort we happen to be staying at.
We will be there June 4 hopefully it won't be too hot then and traffic will be little lighter than in July but we always use the alternate routes. Looking for a couple good shows to go to that we haven't already seen yet.
Saw SIX when I was there in 06, good show. Lots of costume changes.
Also say Yakov. Good, not great. He has gotten preachy since his divorce.
When we were in Gatlinburg couple weeks ago, we did the Comedy Barn. A character 'Slim Pickens' was there and I am sure we saw him at Yakov's theater.
we just got back last week and had a great time. went to 12 shows in that
week. took advantage of there springtastic ticket deal. weather was great. only rained 15 min during the week. stayed at the wyndam meadows and had great rooms overlooking there brook that flows through the resort.
We're going to stay at Big Cedar starting May 21 for a week. I'm hoping the weather will be in the 80's without too many storms.
Last time we were in the area was in 2008, only spent two days in Branson. we spent the majority of our time near Eureka Springs. Great place, nice shopping and some decent restaurants. We plan to go back there this year also. They have their Passion Play which is supposed to be very good, but we never made it there.
Because we are staying closer to Branson this year, we will have to try to get to Lamberts this time. We saw Six the last time we were there, very good.
We would like to rent a bike for a day and just take a ride....Has anyone ever done this?
I know you can rent a motorcycle at this place.
Anybody have experience with them?

Please excuse me, I'm a Dick. Not a moron just a Dick
Most of what is new is what is not here since your last visit . . . businesses that have closed or folded . . . and about 5000 workers who longer have a job.
Lots of foreclosures.
It's the 50th Anniversary celebration at SDC.
