My son just moved to St. Louis for a job with Armstrong/Teasdale law firm and when I first heard about a tornado in MO we were worried because they were having the tornado sirens going off a couple of weeks ago but didn't get hit. I guess he is quite a bit north of your area though. We are coming out to visit him in May and also have a week booked in Branson at the same time, at the Wyndham at the Meadows. Any news if any of the timeshares got hit?
Again we are glad to hear from you and that you are safe.
    take care.

    Hi!

Of course, you're right, they are seldom 100 miles wide.

I know, they track don't they? The Joplin one kept coming and missed my golf course by about five miles. I had gone home for the day and there were a lot of people on the course that evening. I called the pro and he called the closers, and they got everyone in.

This one tracked south of St. Louis, and went from an F2 to an F4, before hitting in central Illinois.

Timeshares hit? I dunno, let me check the Branson forum for people celebrating.

The Meadows is a couple miles off the path.

Maybe the Kimberling Inn got hit. That would be OK.

      Tornado Damage Reports for Branson...

So far, the only report I've heard of a resort closure due to the storm was at Kimberling Inn..

I've spoken with the following properties where I have rentals scheduled:

Silverleaf Ozark Mountain resort and they are reporting no damage.

Silverleaf Holiday Hills is still dealing with a power outage impacting about half the property, but again no damage.

Wyndham reported mild wind damage to all three resorts, but stated they are all open and that there is nothing major to report.

You can also find a list of local restaurants, hotels, and attractions that have been reported as closed at Branson Feb. 29 Tornado Recovery Updates

Minor exterior wind damage at the Falls (Bluegreen), and some power outage. Other Bluegreen Branson-area resorts nothing more than you'd find after a usual thunderstorm (not surprising, since they're in Ridgedale!).

Here's a story about a couple we know, who used to operate the restaurants at our country club.

They now run the restaurants in the Kimberling Inn, part of which is timeshare. We stayed there a couple times, and our house is on the lake 3 miles south.

The Kimberling Inn has a large Courtesy Dock, for guests and restaurant patrons. That dock is relatively new, the last one destroyed by the 2005 tornado that went over while I was on ours. This one would probably have sustained damage, too.

                Kimberling Inn pics:

This Courtesy Dock was full of bass boat for a tournament. The dock itself was about 50 feet to the left, not at the bottom of the ramp:

In this dock picture, at the top you can barely see the one right next to it, and it is untouched:

Here's another view of the same dock, and the trees behind it are untouched. That is the direction the tornado came from. The Kimberling Inn got hit, then it lifted up about 1/2 mile, and sat back down on this dock:

It's been a month and a day, so we went out and about today.

All I can say is WOW!!!

There's lotsa stuff that hasn't even been touched, and there's stuff that's almost rebuilt.

                        A lotta damage, though.

When you see a highrise Hilton with 50-70% plywood windows, it hits home.

It reminded me of Januarys after a spate of hurricanes in Florida. It just takes time to get things put back together.

The Kimberling Inn is severely damaged (which is probably a good thing, as I don't know of a better resort to get a makeover), and RCI has nothing there for the rest of 2012.

The Kimberling Inn is still a mess.

Of course, the dock is still gone.

The tornado hit from the southwest, which the lakefront buildings are facing. The lakefront ones and the second tier up the hill facing SW both got hit hard. The roofs have been redone, but it appears little else has been started, meaning any of the exteriors, sliding doors, windows, etc.

The motel building up by 13 HWY has not been started. It is missing a significant portion of roof, and is probably about 50% destroyed.

Ahoys restaurant is a big blue tarp, which matches the blue exterior.

A lot of work has been done on the main building, but a lot is yet to be done.

I know the couple who run the restaurants there. He is an excellent, well-known local chef. He has started doing a Friday night dinner at the local country club.

As far as other Branson area damage repair, it runs the gamut, from completed to not-yet-started. The last time I was by the Hilton at Branson Landing, every window on the side hit was plywood, and many on the other side. I've heard every window has to be replaced, but that was just overheard talk, and might have just been a figure of speech.

Thanks for the updates on this.
It will be interesting driving around the area when we are there in mid June to see the condition.
I know that the tornado that hit my rental unit and the homes for several miles near it, are still recovering, and that tornado was a year ago this month.

Charlie Steak and Ribs was bulldozed today.

Yesterday I learned that a guy I golf with lost his boatdock and huge man-cave building. It is about two miles on the other side of the hills and ridge west of The Kimberling Inn, and fully exposed to storms coming from the SW.

I was on our dock when the 2005 one went over, but our dock is on the opposite side of a ridge, so I/we were lucky. That one continued on to Kimberling Inn and took out their dock before.
