Welcome. The board you have posted on is intended for discussions of timeshares in those states, but understand not knowing everything on your first post. Mine was just the other century.
First, study the method used to appeal it. All districts have a way to do that.
Many taxing formulas are not based on a purchase price or market value. Some have convoluted formulas. For instance, ours has a convoluted formula, and, then the value is reduced by 10% for each decade that your house is old. So, a house 50 years old sitting next to a new house, both of the same market value, is taxed at 1/2 the amount of the new house.
Then there are exemptions. Homestead, Senior, disabled, military . . . whatever a state has decided to allow.
I thought ours was out of line a few years back, so I just went to the county seat and asked the Assessor what he thought. He did a quick look-see and found that the four houses on our side of the road were, in fact, all figured too high.
Funny, I never heard from the other three owners.
In Florida everything is appraised every year and you can see every property online. Actually, you can see everything about every property online . . . appraisal, tax records, sales history, legal docs, permits, floor plans, exemptions . . .
