For those who are interested in NASCAR, there is a week at Varsity Clubs of America South Bend for the week of Jul 25th to August 1st. This is still a few miles away from the track, but is still driveable in a day. If the schedule holds true next year, this would be a great week for somebody who can use it. Not far from Chicago either. This is available in II.

Brickyard 400 is that week. But the Speedway is a 3 hour drive from South Bend (unless you drive the way I do, in which case you can cut it to 2 1/2, easy, and likely even less ).
It's less than two hours to downtown Chicago, more like an hour and a half to the Museum of Science and Industry and the Hyde Park area (Frank Lloyd Wright's workshop and house, Smart Museum of Art, Oriental Institute, etc.). About an hour to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, and the same to the Dunes State Park. Less than an hour to St. Joseph, Michigan, which is a pretty town on Lake Michigan with a glorious sandy beach (Silver Beach), a frequently rocky beach (Lion's Beach), shopping, a children's museum, a carousel, etc. Also less than an hour to Amish Country -- there's a free Quilt Garden Tour as well as Amish Acres (a historic farmstead with reenactors as well as a theater (playing 9 to 5 that week) and tons of Amish-style restaurants and various museums and tons of shopping and so on.

Thanks for adding the additional information. This is a track that unfortunately has very few timeshare properties that are close. In my eyes, if I can use what I already own, not spend extra on a hotel, and at least get myself a little bit closer so that I only have to drive a couple hours it is still worth it.
We do Michigan every year and although I would do it in a day trip, the better half insists that we stay over at least the Sunday. Typically though we have been going down on Saturday to get the exemptions and bring back cigarettes and alcohol (I don't smoke, but she does!) I haven't taken it yet if it is still there simply because we can't decide when to go to her mother's next year since we are going to Alberta in June.

Yah, not much near there that I know about. The RCI French Lick resorts are closer to Indy, but it'd still be a good two hour drive at least. Likely a prettier drive from French Lick, although there are parts of the drive from South Bend that I quite like. Once the new freeway goes in, it may be that getting to Indy from South Bend will be faster than from French Lick, even though FL is closer, because FL is so far off any freeway. Right now, coming down from South Bend, you need to slow down to 35 in Lakewood and La Paz (I think it is), because, even though there are no lights for them, people will walk straight across the highway there. Traffic's getting heavier along that route, too -- I used to be able to shave an hour off going down to Indy pretty easily on Saturdays, because I know the route so well and because there were a lot of areas with two lanes but little traffic. There are also a lot of lights in some parts, especially going through Kokomo. The Kokomo bypass is supposed to be completed this year, but the whole project won't be done until 2017 -- although only the stretch from South Bend to Plymouth, the Kokomo bypass, and a chunk at the Indy end actually have approved funding, so who knows.
