There are several in the St. Louis area. I would recommend the ones in St. Charles, out west of St. Louis on I-70, over the downtown ones. It is west of I-270 and there is one on the east side of the river (Missouri River) at the first exit west of 270 (Earth City Exit) and one of the west side of the Missouri River, at the first exit across the bridge. Main Street in St. Charles is worthy of a visit also, and you would be right there.

If you opt for those out west, you will have to detour back to I-270 and head south to pick up I-44 down to Springfield, but it is not that big of a detour.

Coming from the east, you can get to I-70 west by going around the north side of St. Louis on I-270, but if you are like most foreigners here for the first time, you will probably want to go on downtown on I-55/70, so you can see the arch and the dome and the downtown area. Then take I-70 out to St. Charles.

That area along the river by the arch is kinda neat, and that is also close to a casino boat.

    So, it's a toss up.

From Springfield, the nearest one is Booneville, which is due north on little highways, and you go by Lake of the Ozarks. It's quite a ways.

Rockaway Beach is just north of Branson on Lake Taneycomo. They had one failed Casino on the ballot (the only failed one ever in Missouri). They recently signed a Detroit-based company to do another campaign. It will most likely fail if it even gets on the ballot.

There's already just way too much going on, being planned and being built in this area, and gambling does not fit into the mold.

But a lot of people are betting their fortunes on Rockaway Beach succeeding, including our 86-year-old neighbor who bought 250 acres there hoping . . .

Riverboat gambling has failed to live up to the promises that the proponents made to get it in, like increasing funding to education. As soon as the tax revenue from gambling starting coming in, the legislature slashed funding to education from the general revenue, so education funding actually went down. Many school systems have had financial crises.

So, among educators and churches, which are two very strong venues in Missouri, casinos don't hold much favor. In the Rockaway Beach ballot issue, the proponents spent $12-15 million and the opponents beat it by spending only $1.5 million.

There are some hard feelings between Rockaway Beach (the have nots) and Branson (the haves).

There are a couple along the Missouri River just off of I-70. One on the east side and at least one on the west side. These are big boat type, but my wife likes the one on the east side and it is a Harrahs.

I can get more information when I get home. I am at the Lake of the Ozarks for a few days. Staying at TreeTop Village - Four Seasons. An II resort. Used an AC to get it.

They are not far from Lambert Airport. But if you are driving there are some riverboats on the Mississippi River, both sides again.

You would probably come in on I-70 to St. Louis and then take I-44 to Springfield. If you decide to go on the ones in the Missouri River, you would stay on I-70 and when you are finished come back to I-270 to I-44. Check Mapquest.

Well Mr. Cape Crusader, I think we have Marti thouroughly instructed on how to get to I-70 west, back to I-270, and south to I-44.

          How's things at LOTO?

Rapmarks are/is here this week and they have invited us up to their resort at LOTO for next week. They'll be here about noon and we'll go hang out on the Margaritaville Dock and then out on the BTSRN.

She asked if they should wear bullet-proof vests, and I hear Kevlar is in.

                St Louis Gateway Arch

                North Tram

Get a spectacular view of the St. Louis area from 630 feet up at the top of the Gateway Arch. To get there, you'll take a tram up one of the legs of the Arch. On your way to the
top in the south leg, you'll experience the St. Louis Riverfront as it was in the 1800s,
                "When Riverboats Ruled."

On your way to the top in the north leg, you'll discover "Fitting the Final Piece" that day in 1965 when the Arch builders connected the two legs of the Arch with the final triangular piece of the monument. Trams leave every ten minutes.

Note: The Journey To The Top may not be fully accessible to
visitors with mobility impairments. No wheelchairs permitted.

                Adults: $10.00; Adults w/National Park Passport: $7.00
                Children: $3.00; Youth: $7.00
