  • Rapmarks' Car Totalled in Branson

As we were on our way to meet Rapmarks for an afternoon show, they called and said their car had been hit while it was parked where they were eating lunch. Actually, they were paying and just about ready to go out to it, so they could have been hurt. Fortunately they weren't.

The car was totalled and by the time the insurance companies and car rental companies in Springfield closed for the day, nothing has been figured out to get them back to Wisconsin. A car is promised, but there's a lot of loose ends and they will have to resume the effort tomorrow morning.

Next week they are scheduled for their home resort at LOTO, but . . .

Thank goodness they hadn't just gotten into it, or worse, been standing next to it on their way in..

Thank God Pat is OK . Good thing they were not in the car. Too bad the rental car does not have emergency service.

Glad that they weren't in the car and got hurt. Hope that they can get things squared away and get on home.

Standing next to it would have been very bad. Their car got pushed into the car next to it.

We spent all afternoon trying to get a rental, calling the rental company in Springfield, MO the insurance company said they made the reservation with. The folks in Springfield didn't know anything about it.

Too late for today we found out that the insurance company made the reservation backwards, and there is a car reserved for them in Madison, WI, the location where they planned to drop the car off!

Without the reservation being made by the insurance company, you either can't get a one-way car form here to there, or the relocation fee is $660-700!

Also, it doesn't take much to total a car any more. It appears that insurance companies would rather just pay you off and take your old car to the auction than pay a body shop to repair it. I guess if you really wanted to hang on to a car that got wrecked you would have to track it to the auction, see who bought it, and then buy it back from them after they rebuilt it, using the money from the insurance settlement to buy it.

Thank goodness they are okay. Cars can be replaced, people cannot.

They have angels on their shoulders.

I'm sure the aggravation is a PITA but they are safe and sound.

Give Pat a hug for me.

Sorry to hear about Ron & Pat's car, but very happy they are OK. I'm sure you all will get the car rental situation straightened out today. Tell them hi from Gerry & me.

An accident is never a good thing, perhaps even worse while on vacation, but at least it was a rental and there were no injuries.

No. It was their car. They are trying to get a rental to get back to Wisconsin.

This morning someone at their resort was heading to Springfield, so they caught a ride with them to pick it up.

If their insurance company did not have a relationship with Hertz, one that allows a one-way drive from here to Wisconsin, they would not have a way to get home. Well, not an easy way.

Bummer. I still remember driving my damaged (3k worth) vehicle back from Florida.

Were they lucky not to be in the car but what a surprise to find your car like that when you come out of the restaurant. A car can be replaced but it spoils your carefree vacation. I wonder how so much damage can be done in a parking lot?

Hi, thanks for the kind thoughts.

The car was parked in front of a restaurant. Across the street is on street parking, a lady (wearing floppy houseslippers, in a beater with no insurance, backed out, said her brakes weren't working, and drove backwards and sideways across the street and into our car, bounced off it and back into it and shoved us into another car. (we think her houseslipper slid off the pedal cause the tow truck said her brakes worked)

We have a rental now, but discovered that since they made us an offer we can only have it for 5 days, which makes us have to choose between taking the whole week at our home resort or leaving early. I guess we will pay for the rental unless the weather turns bad.

Would you believe that makes two green Chevy Luminas that have been hit while parked by a truck and totalled. We won't be buying anothe one.

Ah, an RCI renter hit your car.

                              Glad you are okay.
