for photographs with a world-famous Budweiser Clydesdale.

Busch Family Estate - Missouri


Grants Farm

Built in 1913, the Bauernhof was the first building constructed on
the Busch family estate. Bauernhof is German for "farmstead."

The Bauernhof surrounds a beautiful courtyard and is typical of a 19th century
Bavarian farm complete with stables, a carriage house, and offices and quarters
for those who lived and worked there.

Today, the Busch family's world-renowned
carriage collection and stables are housed here.

The AB brewery tours are fun. It's been a few years since I have gone on one, but it is interesting to learn how the beer is made. Seeing the stables also adds to the tour. Free beer is available after the tour in the tasting room. In that brewery area you can also get over to Soulard and see the Farmers Market in the Summer.
Grant's Farm is free, but they charge for parking. I think I paid $10 to park last May. It is fun to tour and there is a nice tram ride through the grounds. There is a place to feed goats and pet them. I think that they starve the goats before sending them out to unsuspecting small children holding bottles of milk. The goats start chasing after kids with bottles. What can I say it's a St. Louis tradition. You can see more Clydesdale stables and memorabelia, an elephant show and a bird show. Free beer is also available. I think some locals buy the annual parking pass just to drink the beer.
Near Grant's Farm is a National Historic site where Grant built a family home which can be toured. (Grants Farm has the log cabin which is only open two times a year.)
I am embarrassed as a 5th generation Cardinals fan that I have not been inside the new Busch Stadium, but all of my friends tell me its great!
Also in St. Louis there are a lot of great family activities that are free such as the St. Louis Zoo (You will have to pay to see the shows and ride the train.), the Art Museum and Science Center which are all located in Forest Park site of the 1904 Worlds Fair. For a small cost there are other activities such as the City Museum with lots of interesting exhibits for older kids and some strange climbing areas. In Kirwood there is the Magic House a science museum for kids. Of course you can always go to the Arch. It is possible to buy tickets to travel to the top for a great view of St. Louis and the Mississippi. While down at the Arch walk over to historic Lacledes Landing for a meal or have a meal on the floating McDonalds.

Ooops! I forgot that the McDonalds had been closed. I was on the River front for final Signature Event for the Lewis and Clark and forgot that this had happened.
