The MDC Heritage Card

It makes buying hunting and fishing permits a breeze - and gives you
a discount on books, videos, nursery stock and several other selected
MDC products.

What is it?

The Heritage Card is a plastic card with a magnetic strip that will store
all the data you'll need to apply for a hunting or fishing permit in Missouri.
It's not a credit card - just a handy information card.

How does it work?

A vendor will be able to just pass the card through a special reader,
which will eliminate the need to key in certain personal data when buying
a hunting or fishing permit. There will be less paperwork to fill out and
less chance for mistakes in getting your permit.

How do I get one?

You can order a Heritage Card for $2 at conservation service centers
and retail permit vendors throughout Missouri.
You can purchase your Heritage Card at the same time you buy your
hunting and fishing permits. You'll receive the card itself 4-6 weeks later.

Pennsylvania will have something like this soon too and I am VERY ANXIOUS to see it. In Pennsylvania, to get a hunting license the store needs to fill out a number of seperate books to indicate that you got a hunting license, a archery stamp, a muzzle loader stamp, a duck stamp, a migratory bird stamo, a bear licence, etc, etc...

Then, the hunter needs to show their drivers licence and sign 10 or more places it seems and you wald away with a wad of misc papers.

With the new system, I understand the card gets swiped and the hunter selects what they want to buy and the computer processes it all and prints the license with all the info on it. It is hard to imagine that it took this long for someone in the game commisions to figure out that there is such a thing as a computer that could do away with carbon paper!
