What can I say, I never knew. But in this case it's probably a good thing for her that she's just the front woman (shill if you will). Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

All the answers you need to know:
The Herschends formed a partnership with country music legend Dolly Parton in 1986. Silver Dollar City, Tennessee, was renamed Dollywood.

Come to think of it, the Herschends also had a relationship with Kenny Rogers, and he had one of the first houses in Stonebridge here. It seems they parted company over gambling.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

JLB,
I'm very impressed that you keep up with the news, even in our neck of the woods. As mentioned in the article, most folks around here understand that Dolly is just a figure head for Dixie Stampede. I'm not even sure how much she owns of Dollywood, as I didn't have time right now to read the second article you linked.
I do know that she shows up fairly often at Dollywood and in the past, loads of her family has worked there. I don't see them any more as headliners. Not sure what caused the change (except that they weren't very good IMHO).
It's a shame that these kids were mistreated. My sons have done things through the years in various theatres and a parent has always stayed close by until they were old enough to take care of themselves. You shouldn't be forced to do that, but you can never be too careful. If I were denied the right to stay with my kid, then he would not be there. When DS12 worked at Dollywood last year in one of the shows, the parents of all the children were encouraged to stay around and welcomed backstage, etc.

Moving on to kids in shows, that is common around here.
We recently met a real estate agent selling condos at Point Royale/Fall Creek/Thousand Hills/Holiday Hills whose daughter started in Branson shows 10 years ago, when she was 8. She is one of the leads and well-known in Branson. Her family moved here from OK because of her career.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Posted in the corrections column of the Knoxville News Sentinel yesterday:
Clarification
Dolly Parton is the owner of The Dollywood Co., which is the largest single stockholder in the Dixie Stampede Co. A story about Dixie Stampede in Saturday's Business section said Parton "doesn't really own Dixie Stampede." The internationally known entertainer holds an unspecified but "substantial" ownership stake in the Dollywood and Dixie Stampede businesses, according to the company. The Dollywood Co. is a joint venture of Dolly Parton Enterprises, of which Parton is the sole owner, and Herschend Family Entertainment.
I know that DS12's w-2 form for last year came from "The Dollywood Co", but DD's 1099R from her retirement/profit sharing plan came from Herschend Family Entertainment.
