  • Questions on Branson??

I'm looking at possibly booking a trip to Branson. We have never been there before.
Is early fall a good time to go there? (looking at maybe September) Also, alternately is later in the fall reasonable or do things start to close up
For timeshares, I have the opportunity to book in to the following places:
    Silverleaf's Holiday Hills
    Surrey Vacation Resort/Carriage Place
    Palace iew by Spinnaker
    The Colonade
    Roark Vacation Resort
    Surrey Vacation Resort
    Fairfield
    French Quarter
Of these does anyone have any suggestions?? I have read thru the TUG reiews.
Thanks in advance for any help..

Sept. will still be pretty warm but not warm enough to go swiming in most cases. Later into October would be leaf changing season and it can be very pretty if it hasn't been so dry that the leaves turn an ugly brown and just fall off the trees. We've been in both Sept. and Oct. and haven't really noticed things beggining to close up. Celebration City has something of a limited season and I'm not certain it's open on a daily basis, if at all, during the fall months of the year.

IMO the top resorts off your list would be Silverleafs Holiday Hills if you're placed in a presidential unit (will list having a washer/dryer), French Quarter (if it's a 2 bdrm, some of the 1 bdrm unit list a full kitchen but are a glorified LO unit), Palace View by Spinnaker (if it's not one of the budget units. Budget units have shower only. I believe PVN is the top units follwed by PVO and then whatever the listing is for the budget units), and Fairfield but, there are three different Fairfield locations and I can't recall which one is which to choose for good placement. Neither of the Surry resorts, the Colonade or Roark do anything for me and I would put them at the bottom of the list.

Silverleaf is off the beaten path and a good distance from anything else. It has a nice golf course, club house and decent pools but is a bit of a drive to the amuesment parks and the Branson Strip. However, it's seclusion makes it very nice to be at. Spinnaker is a little closer to the action but still tucked away so as to maybe feel a little more secluded. It's relatively close to the yellow route which will help you bypass traffic on the main drag. French Quarter is at the end of the main drag but has an exit onto the red route and easy access to the yellow route to get around traffic. It's the most convenient resort to "town" acitivites and is right on the main drag. Farifields are more spread out with three different locations. I'm not well versed on the Fairfields but it seems that opinion is the Meadows would be the place to be if choosing Fairfield. I just don't know how to tell which one is which when reserving or if it's even possible to do so.

We are booked into Silverleaf Hill Country in October. We know it's a distance from San Antonio and from Austin, but it's between the 2 of them, so we could take day trips to both, plus see the surrounding area. From what I understand, Sunday check-in means the Presidential Units, but I don't know that for sure...we check in on a Saturday.
I drive an 1hr to 1.5 hrs to/from work when I am at home, so the distance doesn't bother me.
I wonder if the recent flooding has had any affect on San Antonio or the Hill Country?!?

        Back to the Branson discussion.

Things do not close up because it gets too late in the Fall, since Branson's peak season is late Fall til Christmas. Actually, some shows go on hiatus in early Fall, like September, to provide a break between the busy summer and the busy Late Fall/Ozark Mountain Christmas.

Swimming in Table Rock in September depends on August temps. I have a feeling we will still be swimming in September this year.

Ozark Mountain Christmas is really very special. If you don't have an affinity for the warm-weather lakey things, I think the first or second week in November is the best time to visit. Ozark Mountian Christmas has started, the leaves are in peak color, and it is still normally warm enough to do outdoor things like hiking or golf.

Check the show calendars to see when OMC and the Christmas shows start.

          Oh yeah, resorts.

Without it being a put-down of the others, I think you would really enjoy Palace View. It is near stuff in town but not right on the beaten path. It has a nice office/Lounge/Internet center and a nice indoor pool.

If they are still doing it, Rapmarks invited us to the buffet/preview dinner at Palace View and it was excellent, although way too many people for the size of their facility.

That was last October or so, when Rapmarks wrecked their car here.

                Hi Jeri,
Looks like I'm looking at locations for right after you plan to be there. I guess we think the same - I'm just slower getting there than you.

I own at Cabins at Green Mountain. I like it there (so does JLB); stand alone two bdrm cabin; rustic decor; gas fireplace; screened in porch overlooking stream. I have only stayed at the "older" units (Numbers 14 and 15) so don't know about the newer ones. Great location, next to Celebration City.

There are 3 FF properties in Branson, all located in the same general area. The Meadows & Mt Vista are the full resorts, with nice grounds, pools, & rec areas. The 1,2,&3 BR units are quite large and very nice. The Meadows is the older resort with outdoor decor to go with the Ozarks; Mt Vista is newer & the decor is very contemporary. I would highly recommend either, there are several restaurants nearby & they are a few minutes from 76. I don't care for the Falls, it is small, has 3 stories with no elevator, and has no resort amenities, they will shuttle you to Mt Vista for them. Upon making a reservation in Branson, you can tell the VC you aren't interested in the Falls if you so desire.

The fall is a wonder time to visit, if you enjoy Christmas, I would recommend going anytime in November. They do a great job all over the Branson area for the Christmas Holiday.

                    Happy traveling.

We have just booked FF for the week of September 21. It is a 2bd 8/6 with a Friday check-in. Are we able to request one specific area , such as Mount Vista or Meadows, so we would be closer to the resort amenities?

JLB- Thanks so much for the invite (over yonder). Can I contact you as the date gets closer, and our plans are clearer?

Call Fairham Branson and ask. I don't know how they work it. You will want Meadows or Mountain Vista.

Yeah, that's how the other works. Drop me an email a couple weeks before check-in and I'll pencil you in. I will send you our phone numbers and directions

                          Do you golf?

Table Rock Landing at Holiday Island.

A really nice, peaceful, quiet resort at the beginning of Table Rock Lake. By water about 50 miles from the dam, near Branson.

Holiday Island is a little planned retirement community, ala Bella Vista, Cherokee Village, Hot Springs Village, etc. It is 9 miles from Eureka Springs and about an hour from beaucoup shopping and dining in NW AR (Rogers, bentonville, etc.)

We are between HI and Branson. From the front gate at Holiday Island to our front door it's 35 miles and then it's 25 miles to Branson. If you get behind one of those slow-driving tourist from Texas, it's about a 4-hour drive.

                          It's all backroads.

Unless it's changed, you have unlimited golf during your week, on the 18-hole course or on the Executive course, which is on the Island not far from the resort. There is a marina nearby, which probably has rental boats.

Beaver Lake is not far away, just above the Beaver Lake dam, which is not far south of Holiday Island.

                          It is pretty country.

My nephew and I played a comp round on their 18-hole course, to see if I should buy there, either a junk lot or a timeshare, because golf is a year-round privilege for owners for a nominal fee, but my game is not suited to their course.

For now at least, I have taken care of the golf issue, at the nicest course around. But, I have this problem of getting banned different places, so I trying to watch my Ps and Qs.

Now that I think about it, on one of our January Florida trips three or four years ago, we were watching an infomercial on TV, about a beautiful Ozark retirement community. They were flying folks in for 3 days to get them to buy lots and build there. . . It was Holiday Island!

Another tidbit. NW AR has the biggest craft shows in the Midwest, the first weekend in May and the third in October. Not as big as it used to be, but it used to be 20 different shows, 1000s of crafters, and 300,000 attendance. Donna Douglas (Ellie Mae Clampett) had a show at Holiday Island in October.

You can certainly request any of the FF properties in Branson when booking a reservation. Mt Vista seems to book faster, especially the time of year you are going. Take a look at your on line confirmation & it will show which property you are book at.

As for resort amenities, the Meadows & Mt Vista have their own amenities. THe Falls shares amenities with Mt Vista. Both Mt Vista & the Meadows are nice resorts.

                            I hope this helps.

A lesser known fact is that Fairham also owns the former Peppertree sorta-resort at Thousand Hills. It has no amenities but the last I heard, which was awhile back, they provided transportation to Meadows for activities there.

Fairham Branson has always had a busy activities schedule for guests who want to participate.
