  • October recomendation

I have some vacation time in October and I am wondering if you have any recomendations for good destinations in the midwest. I am not looking to trade into them, I would be happy to rent or maybe even pick up a last call rental. I am flexible, but I would like a good resort (ie, nice ammenities, good scenary etc).

West Oaks in Iowa is available in October via DAE. I was looking for something for someone this evening and ran across that. I've never been there but it seems to me that I heard someone positively rave about it once upon a time, looking to pick up more weeks there.

MN and WI can be beautiful, but potentially quite chilly in Oct. We went up to the Dells one October and it was quite chilly. Michigan has some quite lovely areas. Indiana has French Lick and I've heard people be very positive about that resort, as well (southern Indiana is far more scenic than the upper 2/3 of the state). I also understand some of those units to be HUGE. Missouri has the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake. And the Arch!

You could potentially rent from a Bluegreen owner in Wisconsin Dells, WI, Boyne, MI or Branson, MO.

I have not timeshared farther west yet.

Actually, the colder ther better. If I can get snow on the ground at that time that would be a bonus.

Can you think of any other resorts in WI or MN?

Hotel Nashville in Nashville, IN is in a scenic part of Indiana. Nashville, IN is an artist's colony with lots of shops, restaurants, live entertainment, etc. It is near Brown County State Park, which is the largest state park in Indiana.

Hotel Nashville has some nice amenities such as a free continental breakfast, and a nice indoor pool and hot tub. The leaves in Brown Countyh would be beautiful in October, particularly about the 2nd-3rd week, but the area is likely to be rather crowded. It almost never snows in Indiana before November, and then it is usually just a few flurries. It almost never shows up in RCI; you'd have to rent it from the resort.

The two bedroom townhouse units at French Lick Springs Villas ARE huge. They have a kitchen as large or larger than those in many homes, and there's a very large whirlpool and a sauna in the first floor bathroom. I really enjoy the bus tours offered by that resort.

If you want snow, MN, WI or MI would be better choices than IN.

          What is "quite chilly"?

The average High Temp in Wisconsin Dells goes from 66 F. on October 1st to 51 F. on October 31st. the Record high for each day in October is mostly in the high 80's.

If you want cold and snow you need to go to the northern part of Wisconsin in late November or later.

What kind of bus tours does French Lick offer? I've thought about seeing that area of the world sometime. shaggy

Oh, don't get me started . . . I own at all but four of the ts in MN. OK, so we don't have that many. I primarily use them for renting during our gorgeous, but short summer.

No snow yet in Oct. Although, there was that record breaking Halloween blizzard in 92. Late Oct is actually not my preference for Northeren MN where all of the ts are located, as the leaves have already changed. Early Oct. is heavenly, really.

So, do you prefer seclusion or an activity driven resort? My personal fav is Causeway on Gull Lake. Wonderful, up-north feel with all of the ammenities a Gold Crown should offer. The Village at Izatys on Lake Mille Lacs is fantastic with a little more to do in the area.

Please feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

I have fond memories of Rhinelander, WI as a gorgeous area. I know nothing about timeshares in the area, however.

If you're willing to go NORTH, consider Canada as well.

You can check out the tours on their web site, French Lick Springs Villa Owners Association, under Nearby Attractions. Norris McPike does an excellent job as your tour guide, except for the Tuesday Amish country tour. On most of that tour, Norris drives the bus while a Mennonite lady provides the commentary.

I really like the feeling of Northern Wisconsin

When I think of "Up North", I think of Minocqua, Wisconsin. While I like Door County, I really like the relax feeling that you can get in Northern Wisconsin.

The Pointe Resort is a resort that has rentals. Next to this resort is The Pointe Resort and Club. This is a timeshare Resort.

Try Lake Superior Resort North Shore - Superior Shores Resort, Hotel and Conference Center - Two Harbors, Minnesota

I have never stayed there but I live close by. There is some beautiful scenery to be seen along Lake Superior. The weather is very unpredictable being so close to the lake. It all depends on the direction the wind is blowing. Duluth, MN and Superior, WI are a short drive away. Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada is about 3-1/2 hour drive. There are many things to see in the area.

I'll recommend Telemark again in WISC

Our very favorite TS is Telemark in upper WI. Although I am a beach person, I LOVE Telemark and October is beautiful - trees have turned - we'll be there for three weeks, (last week of Sept and 2nd and 3rd week of Oct this year with a week at West Oaks in between since, yes, someone we know raved about it too.)

We've been to French Lick and loved it took a bus tour almost every day - they were not too much $$ and very interesting!
Seems the midwest is usually very easy to exchange into during Oct or find an extra vacation
7 years of fulltime timesharing, only 6-7 months, now based in Puyallup, WA

This one looks perfect for what I'm looking for. Is this a timeshare or a hotel? If it's a timeshare, have you seen this for rent or for exchange?

Ok, I am replying to my own post (is that weird?). I found out that it is a timeshare property. I am looking for the week of October 21. Can somebody help me locate that week? I am happy to rent it for the week. I could rent from the resort directly, but I wonder if there are better deals floating around out there. Any ideas?
