  • Booking shows in Branson

My wife and I are going to Branson for a Seabee Reunion next April ( 8th - 12th). Are most of the shows sold out ahead or can you purchase tickets the same day or a day or 2 before performances? Is it better to buy tickets ahead of time ( how far ahead)? Are prices at the ticket offices the same as you get online or those included in your hotel or resort deals? We will be staying at the Lodge of the Ozarks which is where the reunion is to be held. Thanks in advance for replies

I am not an expert in Branson as I have only been there once and will NEVER go back over 4th of July area. OMG was it bad driving. But that is not what you asked.

I have found deals on the web for some of the shows that were better prices. I just don't know how far out you have to buy. It sounds as you want to 'go by the flow' of the group, see shows you want to see at the time. I have no idea how quickly shows sell out, but at the time you are going, I think you will have a better chance of getting in 'last minute' but likely at a higher price.

My opinion, cause as I said, we were there in July, high season, higher demand and everything we did had been planned out in advance.

Actually, show-wise, we are in high season right now, Branson being the #1 tour bus destination in the US, most of the shows being marketed to travel agents who run bus tours, and October-December being tour bus season.

Some of the shows actually go on hiatus toward the end of the summer to get ready for now.

The summer peak season is spread out more, over the lakes, Silver Dollar City, golfing, etc.

I have no problem driving in, around, through, over, under or whatever, the strip or any other part of Branson, any time of year. I also make a point not to tell anyone on the Internet what routes I use, so that there won't be a bunch of Minnysohtuns in my way.

Yesterday afternoon DW called from Springfield and said let's take nephew/part-time-son to Branson Landing and the Eagles Tribute at the Grand Palace. It was already 5:00.

N/PTS drove and met me at the golf course, and we both head to BL, where DW had already gotten a table at Famous Dave's and ordered for us.

Then we headed to the Grand Palace, using a secret route. After buying our tickets at locals discount price we discovered that the Oak Ridge Boys were there last night. So we got our money back and headed for Liverpool Legends, using another secret route. No stops and directly into their back parking lot.

We got locals price there also, whatever it was, and had a great time.

I could post a gazillion Branson sites, but I won't unless you want. Many of the shows do a good job with timeshare resorts, giving preview shows and offering discount tickets. Try 2-for-1 Tickets or Missouri Bargains. Or, find a local and go with them.

Here is a site where you can put in your dates and see what shows are open:

Some TUG friends are here now, and we tried to get together for dinner tonight, but DW is back up in Springfield again.

What is the season in April, how busy? I am guessing there is more activity May-Sept and then again at Xmas.
Everyone talks about Branson, I all I can remember was the traffic. It took about 45 minutes to go 5 miles.

I did like Yakof (spelling doesn't count-I can't spell or count). I also liked a musical show with lots of people and costume changes but can't remember who they were, 'seven something' comes to mind by can't even say why.

I would speculate that most of the Spring crowd is northerners with cabin fever. Most of the golfers I meet that time of year are.

The first part of April is very busy here. Fishing is good. Golf is good. Blossums are blossuming.

SDC recognized the early market two or three years ago, and started opening Mid-March for what they call Family Spring Break Days. Worldfest begins the first week in April.

Yes, summer is busier than March-June. It is, essentially, tour bus season without as many tour buses. What makes summer busy is that it is such a popular lake destination, plus attractions like Whitewater, SDC and Celebration City, which appeal to a younger crowd.

Branson Landing has changed the mix, too, with a more upscale shopping and dining appeal. It has already become a regional attraction, a drive-to-and-back-home destination.

Branson traffic has always been a problem. It is the same problem we have experienced almost anywhere we've gone--Orlando, Houston, St. Louis, Kansas City, Lake Okoboji, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, California, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Alltheotherapolises. When most everyone wants to drive the same place on the same roads at the same time, it's a mess. Here, it's at dinner and show times.

The advice I give for here, or anything, is to try not to do what everyone else is doing at the same time they are doing it, and try not to use the same roads everyone else is using when everyone else is using them. Other roads are here and not being used as much.

Just like golfing--when a course is jammed, a round take five hours, and when a course is not jammed, a round takes 3.5-4 hours. Why? because someone is playing slower than pace.

Same with driving. The highways near us are 55 MPH, but every time we have to go somewhere, someone in front of us is driving 40, gawking, or scared that their car is going to fly off the road on one of the curves. (Although I don't wish that upon them, it would speed things up.)

When we go to Springfield, which is always a traffic mess, I only drive on the main drags long enough to get to a side street. On the side streets, every now and then there will be a stop sign, but there is no traffic, so we get where we want to go fairly quickly.

There is a lot of superstructure, highways and what-not, under construction here, and it's scary to think what the powers-that-be see for 20 years from now!

What was the show I was thinking of, is it Magnificent Seven or something like that? We had dinner, then went down to our seats for the show. It was pretty good. My problem is that shows are starting to run together. Enough timeshare trips and shows and age and I can't remember which show was at what location.

We were in Branson in May. We went to 8 major shows and had no trouble getting tickets a day in advance.

Yes, Magnificent 7, because it is a 7:00 show. You can have steak or chicken dinner for $6.95 extra.

The guy and gal that are the stars of that show are from Nashville, where my wife's sister worked with them at the GOO.

We've seen that show a few times, and we enjoy it.

Speaking of traffic, and the Mag 7, we were just by there yesterday. We ate lunch in downtown Branson, needed to stop at an outlet mall, and then get to the golf course. Of course, I preferred to skip the outlet mall part.

That not being a viable option, as we were driving from DT out to the Strip, there was that choice to make, that very, very, very long left-hand lane going to the strip, or that empty right-hand lane going to the empty alternate route, from which you can pop up onto the strip about anywhere you want.

Of course, as I cruised passed the very, very, very long line of cars, lemming their way to the strip, I thought of this thread, and I said to DW, "I bet when they get home, at least one of them will complain on the Internet about Branson traffic."

Then I added, in good humor, "Not much different than taking a hammer and beating your thumb with it, intentionally, and then complaining about the pain."
