Disney Rumor du Jur

Disney will never come to Branson because their model requires too much contiguous land. No way to acquire that in the immediate Branson environs.

In Florida, they went off by themselves and created Orlando and Kissimmee, pretty much, although with a lot of help.

Assuming for the sake of conversation, that the Branson area was in their plan, then they likely would look for a large parcel of land nearby, where "nearby" could mean as much as perhaps a hundred miles, although I'm sure they would consider closer better than farther away.

That view can be tempered a little, because the Branson attraction probably would have to make do on nine or ten months a year, ala Silver Dollar City. So the minimum likely would be several hundred acres within a half hour (20 miles?).

On the west you would look at Lampey or maybe Blue Eye. On the east, Forsyth, perhaps, although Table Rock Lake would give Lampey a big boost.

Closer to Kimberling City might be desirable, but the availability of a big block of land would tip the scales in favor of Lampey. There is a thousand acre block there, mostly just sitting, with very little use.

Just my guess, of course, worth perhaps twice what you paid for it.

Wow! What an unbelievable coincidence.

Last week the day that us guys and you guys went to the shows, had lunch, and banana splits, I opened the front door about 9:30 PM because Dock Dog was barking at something. In the storm door was a business card from the Director of Real Estate for Young Life.

He had put it there at 5:30, just minutes before we got home from being with y'all. It said he was staying at their caretaker's house, so come on over.

I have only known this man by email over the years, and he is just as nice in person as he has been virtually. This might be the first time he has been here to look over this property. He had been to the county seat and had their site plan and their deeds laid out, stuff I have had copies of for quite awhile.

At the lot where we will build our new house, Young Life is our neighbor on one side and across the road. Another side is Table Rock Lake and the final side is a seasonal owner with a family-shared house on the other side of that lot. Young Life owns the major portion of frontage on our road and several platted lots in the subdivision at the beginning of our road (that is something that he just realized during this visit).

Anyway, he asked questions about where stuff is located, and we looked over their site plan, etc. Also, they are doing something to help with the disharmony in our neighborhood. They have always been willing to share what they have, as Christians living their beliefs. When I rebuilt our road, to turn it over to the County, Young Life supported that project whole-heartedly, and financially, even though our road is not the road that leads to what will be their camp.

Mostly, though, this was a social occasion, not business.

He said they don't have immediate plans to develop this camp, but I don't doubt that they will. It is a noble and worthy cause and I offered whatever help I can be to them.

OTOH, if someone was looking for someone that owns beaucoup contiguous acres with breathtaking lake views and a few miles of lake frontage, fairly close to Branson. . .

I could be right!

But if I am, here's hoping the Christian group maintains control long enough to address the hatefulness in the neighborhood.

In the short term they are providing a plan to bypass one of the problems, a neighbor they have been charitable to but who did not see fit to share with others.

Shifting gears (but not threads), . . . . .

we got a circular in the mail for the new musical about Noah and his arc.

We had seen a display last year but nothing more until one mention in Branson last week and the brochure in the mail sometime recently.

When you stop the mail and don't pick it up for a day, everything is in a jumble.

We had begun to think it was a failed project. Sorta glad to be wrong this time.

There were rumors for years that they would build in the St. Louis Area, but what put it to bed, was a statement that there was way to much winter in St. Louis to keep a theme park open and making money.

I would think that would be the case for Branson, too. Not sure how their parks are doing in other parts of the world, where they have more cold weather.

We got the Noah's Ark flyer too, for the new Sight and Sound Theater on Shepherd of the Hill Expressway near Branson Meadows.

Wow! What a classy flyer, theater, and production.

There's some big bucks being spent on this project!

I wonder if the fact that Jim Bakker's studio is nearby has anything to do with the Sight and Sound theater. He is involved in the big development underway in Blue Eye, just down the road from us. One of our nephews is working on it.

I'm guessing this is the same Sight and Sound corporation that owns an enormous theatre in the Strasburg, PA area. Not affiliated with Bakker as far as I know - but then I guess anything could happen. They have put on some amazing productions that bring busloads of people out from hundreds of miles away in the northeast. The production we saw some years ago was top notch, in my limited opinion. I believe the Noah's ark production includes many live animals. A "heavenly" experience to be sure.

Taneycomo Bridge

I forgot to mention that the Taneycomo bridge will be closed for a year

sometime before the new bridge gets built.

That makes things really inconvenient for the DT Branson/BL area.

The alternate route is the new Industrial Ave exit of 65 in Hollister, a long ways to go from DT or BL to get to the Candlestick Inn or Holiday Hills, and stuff out that way.

Actually, right on the money!

Jim Bakker is the only person I know by name who has gone to prison for selling timeshare through theater. Perhaps a good attorney could have gotten him off for simply following industry standards.

I went out driving the other day, to the Branson Hills/Target/Wal Mart area, then down 65 to 86. All I can say is, "Wow!"

I can't believe all that is going on.

The 4-laning of 65 to the AR line is just about done.
