  • Branson Airport

I didn't realize that this airport was going to be privately owned. I heard about this airport while I was out there this past spring. It's a lot closer than the other choices out there. I wonder how much airfare will be to there

    Branson Airport (BBG)

Opens: May 11, 2009 (new airport)
    Passenger capacity: 1.4 million
The space: Located just 10 minutes from the vacation mecca of Branson, Mo., the first privately financed and operated commercial airport in the U.S. will have an Ozark Mountain theme. The premanufactured steel terminal will boast an 8,000-square-foot welcome center.
Amenities: Show tickets will be on sale at the airport, and free Wi-Fi and free long-distance phone service will be available in the terminal.

My guess, unless there are charter flights such as Allegiant, it's going to be expensive.

I have talked about it before, in general terms as no one has filled me in on all of the specifics.

All of that area over there is owned by a gentleman who owns a lot of stuff. His name is Glenn E. Patch and you might find more about him by googling it.

He is the developer of the huge Branson Creek development, and the founder/developer of the John Daly Murder Rock golf course.

He donated the land for the airport and he and a very small group stand to gain the most, if there is anything to be gained.

The rub is that he/that group have gained concessions from the City of Branson, but not from other nearby area governments, for the operation of the airport.

Hotelier John Q. Hammons, of Springfield, seems to be in the mix, as he has promised a luxury high-rise hotel near the airport, to make Branson Creek/Murder Rock a golfing/vacation destination, sorta distinct from Branson as a destination.

For this close to opening things are still fairly fuzzy.

Coming up shortly is a big to-do featuring John Daly (the golfer) and several of his friends in concert, to be held on the/a runway.

That whole area over there, HWY 65 south of Branson/Hollister, is the focus of major development. It is not far from Big Cedar.

The timing is not really great as this area, like most areas, is in the serious economic market correction, with way-too-much supply for way-too-little demand.

Oh yeah, I should add that the 7500-acre Branson Creek development is mostly just 7500 empty acres at this time. As I alluded to, we have maybe a dozen of these major residential/retirement/vacation developments underway in this are right now, with many of them designed to eventually be bigger than Branson itself.

The Branson Creek clubhouse is still a portable building and the cart barn is a tent.

The Murder Rock clubhouse, which is more of Mr. Patch's baby, is quite nice and sits on top of the highest hill around.

I know people who work at both Branson Creek and Murder Rock.
