DD (16) and her 2 friends picked yesterday to go to NYC by themselves for the first time.
They took the bus from home into Port Authority @11 AM. We had it all planned out and drew them a map so they would know how to navigate to get places from Port...
Instead of an hour's trip, it was 2 1/2 and they never got to Port b/c of the van/scare. The bus had to re-route after it got through the tunnel and when it got to 34th Street and 10th we told them to get off and talked them through to get to Macys (their first stop). They managed but I think the delays etc took a lot of the fun out of things.

When they shut down the Nasdaq, the stock program I listed to was having to do research to find out what was happening to cause the shut down would happen with trades we were doing. Trades were handled electronically, so it would only be affected if the building blew up, which of course would have affecte a lot of other things too.Don

I'm not clear what you think is ridiculous? Is it that people thought a vehicle with no plates might constitute a threat? That the police etc acted to ensure it wasn't a threat?
How much more ridiculous would it have been if the authorities hadn't acted and it really had been a bomb? Surely better to suffer disruption and no loss of life than the reverse.
I do understand that the US isn't used having to react to the threat of terrorism on its own doorstep, with the obvious exceptions of 911 and the Oklahoma bombings, and therefore probably tend to see the disruption rather than the safeguarding of life in these incidents. In the UK we had decades of the murderous activities of the IRA so possibly appreciate the risks more.

Hey, funny I should bring that up, huh?
At that golf course I used to work at, that recycling bin I started, that the OF gave me $#!+ for, is still there. You sorta have to go outta your way to put cans in it, which I do when I golf there, and when I do one of the guys who replaced me inevitably thanks me.
Then, at the new golf course where I now work, I am the OF, and one of the youngins started a recycling bin, and others there gave him $#!+ for it.
& I just smiled. Like this.
Nice that we could have this walk down memory lane.
