  • Just your typical "Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom" morning

here in the lower Hudson Valley.

Got up had my coffee. Watched two deer canter across my front lawn. A doe and a buck.

Frank has been to my house and can tell you I live in a pretty developed area one half mile from the county seat and a good mile as the crow flies to the reservoir. I have no idea where they were coming from or going to but they do show up pretty often.

Drove to work this morning around the resevoir. Maybe a quarter mile from the third largest mall in america and spot one of the junior bald eagles that has taken up winter residence by the overspill and Hackensack river. Drove home and see one of the adults. They are gorgeous.

I like it here. I can be in midtown Manhattan in about 35 minutes with no traffic.

Sounds like my neighborhood. Before we had fences up, I counted 23 deer in my backyard one evening, and I have a relatively small residential lot. After the fences went up, we came home one evening to find about 6 just strolling down our street.

On my commute to/from work each day I frequently see (and/or have to stop for ) deer, elk, antelope, fox, geese, ducks, quail and raccoons. Our bald eagles typically hang out down by the river, but I do see one occasionally circling over our subdivision.

We don't get elk or antelopes.

The eagles are special especially for those of us who remember when they were so few. I'm hoping they are getting nice and fat on the year round Canadian Geese.

I only see our local antelope as I get very close to my work site. It's a higher plain than down where I live in the valley, and I sometimes see 10-12, usually in the late afternoon, and typically more so this time of year.

You're lucky to have the eagles nearby. They are definitely a treat to watch.
