After living here all our lives, my wife and myself along with some friends want to do a NYC bus tour. Any recommendations and discounts? We will be 4 maybe up to 7 people.

Wait: Just found in my little back pack: http://www.nytix.com/Attractions/
and this just in: http://www.citysightsny.com/
I think this would be an excellent thing to do for a New York TS4Mers get together. I saw the big buses and one double decker last Saturday. It was half open, half closed - semi-topless you could say. and folks looked like they were enjoying themselves.
I've taken them in London, Dublin and Edinburgh just to cover a lot of things in a short amount of time.
(You know you won't get me into Yankee Stadium, ever )

Bigfrank,
I googled this exact phrase:
NYC bus tour discounts
My friends don't call me "Google Queen" for nuthin... With Google, the more specific you are (the more words) the better a hit you get. Sometimes I use six or more wordsin the search, believe it or not.
'Nuff said. Gotta go to sleep. Tomorrow's another...

Entertainment books has some coupons for NYC tours.
You can check out their site. The 2010 Entertainment® Book Offers Great Savings – Discounts for Restaurants, Shopping, Travel & More!
There are a few people who have a cottage industry selling coupons like these on ebay. My sister in law does. She does mostly Hawaii and Florida though.

Frank, I have done the HOHO bus from Times Square with the kids....there was an uptown route as well as a downtown route...I remember really enjoying it.
This was on a double decker bus with the top open - it is an entirely different experience seeing Manhattan from 15 feet up!
I am sure you will all enjoy it but wait until the weather is nice enough to sit uptop and outside.

Frank, funny you should post this. I have lived in the NYC area for 55 years, and had never played "Tourist" until last year. We did one of the bus tours (the downtown loop) last summer and had a wonderful time. We learned some history that we either never know or took for granted. DH and I want to go and do the Uptown loop. What got me going on this was discount ticket offer in the "New York Daily News". We used to get daily delivery and it had a discount thing that you had to collect something like 6 out of seven pieces of a boat and it gave you a great discount. I am in Scottsdale now, other wise I could give you the information that I may still have at home. The offer was good for a really long time. I think almost a year. Have fun!Ann-Marie

Frank, we did the "Hop on/Hop" Off tours in 2008. There are 4 HO/HO tours, Uptown, Downtown, Brooklyn, and the night tour. We purchased our tickets from the concierge at the Manhattan Club. We purchased all 4 tours as it only cost $10.00 more to get all 4 than to buy just one of the tours. We didn't do the night tour as we ran out of time but will definitely do it this August when we visit New York. Our favorite was the Uptown Tour mainly because we had a great tour guide. She not only was very informative but had a great sense of humor. If I could only do 2 of the tours, I would pick the Uptown and Downtown. Brooklyn was OK but nothing like the other 2. You have 48 hours to complete the tours and get on and off wherever you feel like. Basically you are buying a 2 day pass.
We have done HO/HO in Vancouver, Victoria and elsewhere but the New York City ones were the best and much cheaper.
We also did one of the boat cruises and the "Ducks" tour. I do not recommend the "Ducks" tour. It is pretty lame. We have done "Ducks" tours in Seattle, Branson MO, San Diego, etc. and the NYC one was the worst. There are different boat tours. We went on one that was recommended by the concierge at the Michelangelo Hotel. Unfortunately I do not remember the name but it was excellent. It was a 90 minute tour and quite reasonable. The concierge warned us not to take the 2 hour tour as it was slower, more expensive, and you didn't see any more.John
