  • What if I wanted to go to Cape Cod?

This is an idea that has been floating around in my head for some time. I think a beach/city vacation would be fun.

I'd like to stay in Boston for a couple/few days and then head to Cape Cod-which I really know nothing about-except I'd experience a "different" kind of beach coming from So. Cal.

So, what timeshare should I be requesting? We would most likely be a family of 4 possibly traveling with another family of 4.

I'm looking for 2bd accomodations. I have come across Brewster Green, Briarwood, and Colonial Acres.

I'm leaning toward Colonial Acres because it has beach access...but is it a walking town? Are there any restaurants or activities within walking distance? I realize Brewster Green and Briarwood are inland.

This is all premlinary as I have done little research on Cape Cod. We would likely be traveling week 22 just after Memorial Day week.

    Any thoughts or advice?

I went around the same time you are planning to go last year and the weather was beautiful but a bit cold to go swimming IMO as a Floridian.
For you it might be okay but I'd think that staying inland even though you wouldn't have the sea view would still be nice because there is so much to do nearby and everything is so quaint.

I think you really need to rent a car anyway to really take advantage of all there is to do there. We drove everywhere and didn't really walk to much except the beach but it might be because we stayed on the coast at Smugglers Beach and it wasn't right in town but was still very convenient for doing day trips throughout the whole Cape.

As for Boston, I'm not sure if there are 2 bedroom rooms at Custom House but it is such a nice city resort and is right near everything touristic that you'd want to see. I'd definetely try to stay there if you can get in there.
I could have spent a week there. You don't want a car in Boston as the parking is about $40 a day.

I also did a week in the Berkshires which is within driving distance from Boston and is so beautiful and definetely worth a visit since you are coming from so far, you might enjoy that as well.

Custom House is only 1 bdrms......II doesn't offer any other timeshare in
Boston that I can think of. They do however have getaways to Boston with summer dates.

Another location to consider would be Newport, RI.

Living on Cape Cod I will say that you MUST have a car to get ANYWHERE. We do have some public transportation but it is very limited. If you want to see Provincetown you will need a car. To get to the ferry to go to Nantucket or the Vineyard you will need a car.

Most of the timeshares are not within walking distance of the towns they serve; one exception is the Harwichport. Colonial Acres being on the beach is not withing walking distance of Yarmouth "town."

Most resturants and atttraction are open at the Memorial Day holiday, especially since the Cape has become more year round. There are several excellent resturants that I can recommend, one being the Yarmouth House, another The Black Cat (Hyannis).

In May you will miss the crowds, but the weather can be iffy. It will most definately be too cold to swim at the beach. I live here and have for over 20 years and it is too cold for me! Days can be warm, but nights are still cool...you will usually need a light jacket or windbreaker, sweatshirt or sweater., especially since you are from SoCa.

If there is any special infor you wish PM me.

I think week 22/23 is a great time to visit - definitely not swimming weather but I think you can only swim at the Cape for one week in August anyway just too darn cold most of the time.
It is a great time to walk along the beach and do other beachy/warm weather activities - boat trips/golf/fishing/shopping.
As others have said, you DO need a car on the cape but it is very 'easy' driving compared to SoCal - 2 or at the most 4 lane roads.
You do not want/need a car on Boston - the Custom House is great and your family of 4 will be comfortable there even if it is only 1 1BR sleep 4 private.
They will give u a roll away bed if your kids won't sleep together. Minimal kitchen but enough to do breakfast/lunch/snacks in the room.
Your friends can always take a hotel room for that week - there are many options and price points to choose from.

The Cape is EXTREMELY crowded come week 26-35, I think you will enjoy your visit more by going a few weeks before the Northeast kids summer vacation.

              Thanks everybody!

Yes. I would have a car on the Cape but not in Boston. I could probably finagle Custom House with my Marriott-do you think a plat studio could pull that week since it's semi low season-a lull after Memorial Day and yet not summer?

My WM can see all the Cape timeshares in II no problem. But in my research today I see that a lot of rentals still consider it "spring" which of course cracks me up since it's "spring" here right now...June is summer. Which means I might be able to just rent a few days in Cape Cod if I decided to do the week in Boston.

How far is Newport, RI-it seems fairly close. I really have no clue-but I am learning.

My family kinda burns out after about 10 days-so I don't know about 2 full week t/s stays.

Ocean Club-it only has 1bds? Is that right?

It seems like it is right in the general area of Colonial Acres. I like the idea of being on the beach-but I'd go inland for more room and 2bds. I think I would only stay at CA if I could get one of their cottages with 2bds.

Driving doesn't bother us-but is it really as spread out as it seems? In California-miles don't compute-time does-so when I see 27 miles between places in/on (what's proper?) Cape Cod-what is that in time?

I have also been googling Lobster Rolls-I'm going to need to experience at least one of these if I come-so far, it seems the overwhelming thumbs up has been given to the Raw Bar-this is important information I'm going to need. LOL!

Stressy.....I was thinking about what I might do if I had 10 days to cover the area. Just some thoughts.

Newport....I might fly into Newport RI, stay 2 days. Visit the mansions, town, beaches, Bowen/Bannister Wharf, and the 10 mile drive. Drive to Cape Cod.

Cape Cod.....I would most likely stay 4 days. Visit the various towns, tour P town, and possibly an excursion to Martha's Vineyard, or Nantucket. Drive to Boston.

Boston.....4 days. Lots to see & do, I might stay 5 days in Boston, and 3 on the Cape, ( or extend my vacation to 11 days ) depending on how energetic my family was feeling. Fly home from Boston.

The problem with that is that you would not be using any 7 day stays in a timeshare. I wonder if it would be possible to get some short stay exchanges, or getaways from II?

This is a wonderful itinerary...I'd likely do something close to this. I love planning and having a year to do it. I'm going to run this by the family. My other choice is Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver...maybe even an Alaskan Cruise. One by one-I'll get them marked off my list

We stayed at pier 7 years ago. Prety much in the center of everything. We had a nice room that had 2 floors with a water view but for some reason I think it was like a marsh. Parking lot was always full so if you get in late parking is not fun.

Try Surfside Resort in Falmouth. ON the BEACH. Full kitchen. indoor and out door pool. What else could you ask for?
I am there this week and looking out on the waves right now, as I have my lunch andwrite this post.
Why go to the Cape and be inland?

I stayed at the Cove at Yarmouth.
The units were nice and newly remodeled.
They are townhouses so two stories.
Also had a marsh "water view".
They are pretty centrally located though for touring.

Could be. The Pier TS looked like a converted motel to me when I passed by it. Very small rooms by the look of the doors on the outside.
The Cove had a big parking lot but I do remember that we ended up parking kind of far from the unit and we were there in off season.
