  • Montauk on a budget, am I smokin' stuff?

Ok, I realize the absurdity of this question, BUT it has been about 12 years since we sold our house out there and I'm just wondering about any good ideas for budget dining/activities in or around Montauk since we will be taking a COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY AND EXTRA (my t/s jones strikes again) trip there for Memorial Day weekend.... teen boys will be with us, we'll be staying at Gurney's... and if you haven't seen my other post we have some FREE nights available at the end of the week (5/30-6/2)...

The Montauket(SP?) this is a hidden gem that only locals know about. If you call me I will give you directions. You have to get there early. Sit out side and you will have the 2nd best sunset in LI, the best is on Navy road. Food is good and not bad in price. it is like a bar steak place. Steaks are good and are a nice size.

Frank, thanks for the tip; I will call you tomorrow, but please send me your # again, I can't find it in my PMs and I lost all my email in Avery's Crash of April 2006. In the meantime, I wanted to thank you b/c you were the one that alerted me to the fact that week was floating around. I think it was an exchange a few weeks ago, but I found it on EVs last night. Is my memory correct in that this is the year we're going to miss you there, but you will be there NEXT mem. day?

          Frank, do you fish?

I have an Uncle on the Island and years back I went Cod fishing with him off Montauk... The Cod sure were biting that night and I know if I was to go on vacation out that way and the fishing was good I would look for one of the boats...

Then again, what I remember as being fun as a 20-something might not be so much fun these days?

My kids love those fishing trips, we will look for one. We usually go out of Captree (near Robert Moses), try to go once a year just for fun.

                Avery,

One of our favorite restaurants in Montauk is the 'Harvest'.....The food is great and served family style. It is moderately priced because you can share portions.

We usually get 2 appetizers for 4 and than 3 dinners for 4. That will be plenty of food, the portions are huge.

Montauk is not easy to do on a budget, but, you'll have a great ime if the weather is good.......enjoy......

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I know, who am I kidding?! At least I'm trying. Yeah, that's it.

I will check out the Harvest, and Frank mentioned some others last night too.

Yes Harvest was one of the ones I mentioned. The other is its sister restaurant which I prefer more, ENE, East by north east, Thats the one with the Asian flair. Harest is good they give you pleanty of food. I just feel the atmosphire and food is much better at ENE.

ok, got a reservation at East by Northeast for Saturday. Oddly, can't make a reservation for Harvest until one week ahead, so will call back Sunday for that. Weird, since they're owned by the same company...

Now our friends want to join us, so if anyone sees another EV with a 5/26 checkin, please put it on hold, I will pay the GC fee... Gurney's d/n even have any rentals/hotel rooms left.

                      Thanks
