How far are these and is there enough to do for the day?

Hyde Park is up near Poughkeepsie, and it's pretty near New Paltz...I think. You can book lunch at the fancy restaurant at the Culinary Institute, and then they used to have tours of the school.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt's house (actually his mother's house) is near there, and you can visit and take a tour of the house and see his resting place. We combined that with Mohonk once. Eleanor's house is nearby, and you can also visit that. (We ran out of time.) So there's definitely a day of activities in the area, and the scenery will be very beautiful when the leaves start to turn.

How about Mohonk Mountain House? It's in New Paltz. You can make lunch reservations there and then you're allowed to hike their beautiful trails and look at the scenery and the hotel. You can rent a rowboat and go around the lake. In the evening they have tea and cookies by the fire. The lunch is nice, too! Don't forget to bring dimes for the fish-food machine--when you feed the fish they jump right up out of the water.

It looks like it just became a Philly trip, The 97 degree weather is changing our plans last minuite. Not 100% sure yet, We are going to talk about it when jimmy gets here, I will let you know tonight when I get back.

I can understand that--although it is a bit cooler in the mountains. Still too hot to be hiking, probably. Save Mohonk for a fall trip.

That is what we said to do when the leafs start turning,

We got to Philly just in time for Lunch, I called my friend who owns Holt's Cigar Company - Everything Cigars Since 1898! and he said to go try a new place that is a hit and only people who live there know about it, The place is down the block from Jim's Steaks which is my favorite spot. Ishkabibbles at 337 south street between 3rd and 4th 215 923 4337 place looks like a dive from the out side and there are only 4 counter chairs but the meat was good and plentiful.
