I'm sitting in a hotel on the upper west side right now. Nary a bedbug in sight, and no unsightly bites on my legs...

They've been in the news a lot, but the odds of getting a room that has the bug are still pretty small. Spend a few minutes checking for signs before you unpack, and ask to be moved if you see anything. You should be fine.

At Christmas time we ran into a family that lives in upstate NY at the Radio City Music show in Boston. They were expecting to go to NYC as they normally do to see the Christmas shows. They decided to go to Boston instead because of the talk of bedbugs in NY. We were glad to have the family visit Boston instead.

NYC tourism had record numbers last year.

There is a bedbug problem, but it not limited to NYC. It is a worldwide problem. I live in NYC, and I watch out for the little pests. I also check when I go on vacation outside of NYC, wherever that might be. I told my son to check the room when he went to Vegas.

Part of the problem is the NYC is a Media Center. So our news is National, and worldwide.

Everytime Bloomberg has a headache such as the Christmas snowstorm the world has to hear about it. There are reporters hiding on every street corner now, since the internet is so portable.

Come in and enjoy this lousy winter with everyone else here! Just check for Bedbugs in your room and you will be fine!

Thanks for all responses. I too check the rooms when we travel no matter where we are.

I love these kinds of hotel horror stories. They scare a lot of people into stayin home. Watch out for bedbugs at your home too! I'm all for less people competing for rooms I want!

You are not scaring me away.

We will be at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at the Hilton Hotel on the Avenue of The Americas in a few short months. We are looking very forward to going back to NYC.

We didn't see any bedbugs last year.
