  • Friar Tuck Bankruptcy Trustee compiling a list of timeshare owners..

If you want to be noted as a timeshare owner and can provide some type of documentation proving ownership, you can send a letter to Marc S. Ehrlich at 64 Second St., Troy, NY 12180.

I saw his information in this article.

You may want to consult your own legal counsel first, as the article gives no indication to what purpose such a list is being compiled.. According to articles, a "mysterious fire" destroyed all the owner records prior to the bankruptcy.

Follows is an excerpt from the article:

Sadly, it's not even clear how many folks are in the same boat with Appel. A U.S. Bankruptcy Court file on the case is overflowing with letters from timeshare owners seeking to be known.

Ehrlich described his estimate of 750 to 1,000 timeshare owners as a guess because he has no master list.

"There was a fire, just before they filed bankruptcy, that mysteriously burned the room where the records were kept," he said.

Ehrlich collects names and addresses of those who bought timeshares at the resort and periodically submits them for addition to the court mailing list on the case.

His office address is 64 Second St., Troy, NY 12180.

To his dismay, he said, he hears almost daily from people in situations like Doris Appel's.

"It's all the Dorises who have paid in and paid in and paid in and then find out they have nothing at the end. That, at the end of the day, bothers me," Ehrlich said.

The state attorney general enforces timeshare rules and regulations designed to protect consumers, but a spokeswoman for Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said no civil enforcement action by the attorney general is possible because of the ongoing bankruptcy court activities.

Given the current bleak picture, I asked Ehrlich what sort of eventual outcome Appel and other timeshare owners should hope for.

"I think they've got to hope that the eventual buyer is a company that revives and operates timeshare resorts," he said.
