  • the Cove at Yarmouth, Cape Cod

I have a hold on a one bedroom for Sept 18. I need my knee replaced but can't do it yet because of other health problems.
16 steps to unit then the bedroom is up a flight of stairs once you are int he unit. also, sounds like a pretty tiny bedroom. no kitchen, no balcony, no beach. should I keep it or wait for something else to come up? really would like to go to Newport RI but don't see much there. doing the Berkshires the week before, and maybe the Poconos before that. not familiar with availablility on east coast in sept, can stay at my son's a couple of nights too.

Wacky owns at Briarwood - they are 2 or 3 bedroom free standing house...might be better with your health situation./

You want to do things off Cape I think from running across prior messages.?

Briarwood is situated closer to the entrance to the Cape in Falmouth (not Yarmouth) than the Cove which is mid Cape. I'm guessing a 40 minute travel difference or so.

For that reason alone it may suit you better.

The 2brs at Briarwood are nice and big but both brs and the main bathroom are up a flight of stairs. The downstairs bath is a very small half bath. So probably not good for your purposes. I think some of the units have a ranch layout but you would need to call the resort to ask.

There are suites at the Cove but only 1/3 of the total rooms are suites. You could call and ask if you can be reassigned one due to your health. The suites a 1 bedroom, all ground floor units - no stairs.

From what you posted, comparing the two units:

              Cove V's Briarwood:

one bedroom: Expect it to be a 2BR, haven't seen a 1BR yet.

16 steps to unit then the bedroom is up a flight of stairs once you are int he unit: Same, pretty much.

pretty tiny bedroom: Good size master and adequate 2nd, both with generous
              closet space.

no kitchen: Full small galley kitchen.

              no balcony: same

              no beach: same

I don't know the exact configuration of the Cove units and are not going to look it up now. It is possible at Briarwood to be downstairs and utilise the sleep sofa and downstairs toilet the majority of the time, there is a small ground floor patio off the living room that may be useful.

Without a better option, of the two here for travel distance to Boston suburbs alone, and marginally better facilities I'd pick Briarwood.

I have a few pictures of the Cove unit in a trip report I did for another forum if you want to see them.
New England Fall trip. - Page 3 - The DVC Boards at MouseOwners.com - the place to talk DVC and Walt Disney World

The 1 bedrooms have a tiny loft bedroom with a decent bathroom upstairs and downstairs there is a couch bed and another full bathroom. The kitchen is small but functional for breakfast but that's about it. I guess you could just use the downstairs portion and not bother with the loft bedroom.

The units were recently redone and very nice but yes you have to walk up a flight of stairs to the entrance to the units and then you've got another very steep set of stairs to the loft bedroom. I didn't bring my suitcase upstairs, I just left it downstairs and brought my jammies and stuff upstairs. I had the whole unit to myself so used both bathrooms but you could sleep 4 fairly comfortably in these units.

No balcony to speak of and we had a parking lot view. The sliding glass door opens but there is just a railing so it's more of a fire escape than anything useful.

I thought the location was pretty central to the things I wanted to do although it's not on the beach but on a swampy piece of land.

We moved from Cape Cod Holiday Estates because these were newer and more central but those units if you don't mind dated cottages might be better for handicap issues.

                  the unit looks nice!
I wouldn't describe myself as handicapped, but constant stairs would be a killer. I like your idea of not bringing the luggage upstairs.
                  thanks for all the suggestions.

                    Briarwood is gone!
I really should wait til after I get some pathology results , see endocrinoligist , and find out their plans for me.
