  • Hurricane Irene and Everything!

We have a week at Attitash Mountain Village starting Friday. This is our dilemma. We live 8 hours away on L.I. So our drive on Friday will get us there at the earliest is 2-3 PM on Friday. Unfortunately we have to head home on Monday. Our daughter who lives in Boston is joining us, and has the same problem. Her husband is flying to Ca on Monday night and she needs to get home. With the weather forecast that I have been hearing, they are calling for an increasing cloudy day on Saturday and rain all day Sunday and Monday with hurricane force winds. I'm trying to decide if it is worth it for us to travel all that distance if the weather forecast is that bad. Our daughter will probably go anyway, but it is still a shame that the week might go to waste. Any opinions on what I should do? Thanks

Ugh, we are supposed to fly to VT on Sunday. I didn't realize it was supposed to be bad up here and further north.

Let's both hope that the storm changes course, but if I were driving all that distance for the just weekend I would probably bail if the forecast doesn't change.

By the time the storm hits VT it should have about 25 MPH winds and be just about out of rain.

I'm at the beach right now in Miami and the winds have really started kicking up in the last 3 hours. They took down all the umbrellas and cushions early because of the winds and its not even heading this way.

I have been following it here:

Intellicast - Caribbean Satellite in United States

& it appears to be veering a bit west toward FL.

I guess I wouldn't worry too much about New Hampshire and Vermont. They are both inland enough that you shouldn't feel the brunt of the coast will.

But, with that said.....I'm still not sure if I would do an 8 hour drive just for the weekend. Your daughter should also get home prior the storm starting. Boston is too coastal.

Well now with all the warnings for LI, we are worried about our house. It seems like we are leaning toward staying home, but will make that decision tomorrow.

Ugh, I haven't seen those. Will continue to try to avoid for another day or two

Hurricane Irene: Major Northeast Threats Updated: August 25, 2011 6:30 am E

                    Hurricane Irene: Major Northeast Threats

Our projected path map below continues to paint an ominous picture by pointing Hurricane Irene right in the direction of the East Coast this weekend. The latest computer model guidance confirms this threat and the first hurricane watches have been issued for the United States.

The potential is real for the strongest hurricane hit on the Northeast in at least a couple decades this weekend!

I am supposed to check in to Newport, R.I. this Friday. Hoping for the best that we are not evacuated.

I did not purchase vacation insurance, but in 20 years and 4 weeks a year, this is the first we will loose. Oh well.

Ann-Marie, I think you need to head for SC right away to get out of Irene's path.

Insured the timeshare but not the flights - flights only cost $143 pp and most were paid for with expiring vouchers.
