Well, we are having reports that Irene is done. Through. Finished for MA and not much of a threat for NH and Maine.

We do have a power outage. Standby generator kicked-on and is still running. I'm convinced the power outage is more a reflection of how pathetic National Grid is and not how powerful Irene was.

I just saw a Weather Channel guy in New Bedford who said that the storm would be going on there for quite a while. Family in PA & Matawan, NJ have no power but my sis in Wayne, NJ does. August in NJ is now the wettest month EVER. Trees will be falling for weeks.

We have power, but the rest of my town is out. Several trees down and Oyster Bay has totally flooded the parking lot and there were a bunch of dogs swimming in the lot!

The lights were flickering this morning so we stayed off line. My neighbor across the street lost power this morning. Heard a couple of large explosion like booms around 9 this morning--still don't know what it was. Power has been pretty steady for the last hour or so---water coming in the basement in two areas. Still raining and some wind- radar looks like the rain is coming to an end and the storm seems to be falling apart. Maybe I can relax in a few hours when the rain slows and hopefully stops. There's a couple of small areas of standing water down about 250 ft. in the back yard---I have seen more in the the past.

My son had a long night but he took care of any water getting in, My friend Jimmy(Viking boy) had his dad and sister with the family move in last night because they had to be evacuated. He just called me that in his house there was no damage but they have no power. I still do not know how bad it was at my other house but I know the roof was leaking early on.

              Probably the transformers.
When you're in a high rise you see them exploding all thru the city. They make quite a nice green light show. Wouldn't recommend spending a hurricane in a high rise but that was before we knew better.

You're lucky Ann-Marie. Glad that you have power.
It's miserable to be without power for days.

We did not lose power, and only have several small branches down. My daughter lives 8 miles away. She has no power and her neighbor's big tree fell down into the street. Thank goodness there is another way out. The fire dept. is there now cutting up the tree.
Most of the outages are on the north shore of L.I; the south shore seemed to have fared better (in Suffolk County at least; I think Nassau was hit harder).

The most anticipated thunderstorm, EVER. We will still have a day or 2 of river flooding.

DDs little island home is fourteen miles south of New Bedford. YIKES!
Now Tropical Storm Jose is smacking Bermuda with 40 MPH winds.
Will I ever be in the right place?

I'm 2 towns over from New Bedford. Still getting consistent wind gusts - but only around 20-30 mph. Very little rain. Biggest issue will be the tide - this morning the river was up to the top of the pier. (no I wasn't out checking - husband is a PO and was stationed down there this morning) Still have power.

But....I do have a small amount damage. Made my husband take down a tree yesterday that has been dead for years. Fell the wrong way.....on the house, deck and tractor. Of course just two weeks ago I increased my homeowners insurance deductible from $250 to $1,000 to save a few bucks.

All our cars are in a field a few miles down the road. We kept the truck here just in case.

Should have taken my chances with Irene!

Thank goodness that the worst seems to be over and Irene is now a tropical storm. The damage could have been so much worth.

We heard that 5 million people are out of power and that Time Warner lost their cable even here. This will all be fixed but what about the health of the big old trees? That would worry me. As Pat mentioned, they may fall over a lot later. Can they check their health and cut them down before they become a hazard?

                              we were very lucky

We have power and no real problems other than some tree limbs fallen and on the street. I only have a one car garage so we put one car inside that I own and we have a leased car that I parked on the street. I left it on the street rather than in my driveway since I have about 20 oak trees on my property and have had tree limbs fall on my driveway during previous storms and one landed on the roof of my car about 5 years ago causing about two thousand dollars in damages.

So my neighbor across the street had a huge tree limb fall down on the street right in front of my house and missed my car by less than a foot. The limb is huge and is blocking my street from thru traffic ( my street is only one block long) . It also missed the power lines and telephone lines in front of the house so we were very fortunate. Hopefully they will remove the tree by tomorrow but I can still get out of my driveway just can only make a right turn to get out of my block.

I got up several times during the night as we have a small creek in back of my house that overflowed and covered about 90% of my back yard which looked like a lake. I moved everything from the wall adjacent to my back yard but since my house sits on high ground with about 15 steps from my first floor deck no water got into my basement.

Wow Larry you were lucky! Thank goodness you have an alternate exit from your street, and that the limb missed the power lines.
Where are you on L.I.? I am at exit 63.
