It is absolutely beautiful in Winston Salem, NC. We were lucky. We left a day early / Friday from MB and it was just raining. I read in the MB Sun that they had heavy rains and downed limbs, trees, etc. As you Northeners are better prepared for snowstorms, the south is better prepared for hurricanes. I pray we all get out of this without harm. shaggy

Well I'm happy to hear that it was only a "thunderstorm" Lawren.

You really didn't want to actually have to go thru the real thing.

Some of the larger rivers like the Delaware won't crest for a couple of days yet. The Passaic River will rise higher than it ever has. Record flooding in VT. School was supposed to start tomorrow for my grandson in PA. Me thinks that's not going to happen.

Ann-Marie, you did the right thing staying home.

Pat, we didn't want you to feel left out because you missed Irene.

Where are you on L.I.? I am at exit 63.

A tree limb took out my walkway/driveway lamp post. Could have been much worse!

I heard Nassau got hit hard. My aunt lives in Syosset but she still has power. My mom lives by the water in East Patchogue. She had power, but she lost it at 4:30 pm. Her basement was dry until the same time, when the tide rose and the water came up from the bay. Now she is pumping out. I have no idea why her power went out after the rain stopped, but her whole neighborhood went out.

                    • Our standby generator started about 10:15am yesterday and is still running. Widespread power outages in MA, especially around our area. It didn't seem so bad, but the numbers speak loudly.

                      • Ct has a lot of damage. Some houses went out to see along the coast. We lost power for a few hours. Two houses down a large tree is across the road with wires, down the street the other way there are powerlines across the road. Many homes in town do not have power. Branford was hit hard-no power there, coastal homes are flooded....

                        Glad we faired ok

                        • We were very, very lucky in our town on the Cape. We did have a tree come down at the end of our driveway and DH took down another while he was cutting up the first as it was leaning. We never did lose po***r, just a few flickers and off once for several seconds.

Others more down the Cape lost power for hours and hours. Some still are without.

We had very little rain, which is I presume what saved trees coming down and even more power outtages.

                          • When the storm went by I thought we dodged a bullet then it got even more windy than during the hurricane. Power went out at 9:30 last night and just came back on for some in our area. Most of the damage came last night from the post hurricane wind.

                            • We live in Virginia and Irene was a category I hurricane. We lost electricity and telephone services this past Saturday. Electricity and telephone services were just restored late Monday in our city.

                              • No electricity, cable, TV, or internet for us still. No idea when it will be restored.

Our standby generator has been cranking away since 10:15am Sunday.
