  • Nice hotel near Garden City, New York?

I'm so afraid of bad hotels and bedbugs these days. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel near Garden City? We have a college visit to make at the beginning of December...only a one night stay.

    Thanks!

The Garden City Hotel comes to mind...

I can't make any guarantees about bedbugs anywhere, but I've not heard of any problems there.

The place is huge. Somewhat older. You should be able to find discounts somewhere, they used to be on skyauction a few years ago.

Any of these should be fine:

I second the Garden City Hotel. It's the nicest hotel in the area, IMO.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

There are a couple of reviews complaining about older rooms. I recall the rooms being a little dated, but large and comfortable. If you end up in something you don't like, ask to move. I don't know how they support a place that big. They do a lot of private parties, weddings, BMs, Sweet 16s, etc.

The restaurant there used to be excellent, but I haven't eaten there in a long time.

              still on Skyauction

Hidden reserve, but can't hurt to try - kind of like Priceline but you know the hotel at least:

I too know of GCH but here are a few more to try (from a friend in area)

"La Quinta, Hampton Inn, Hyatt Place. Last two best - right in town. "

you can check them all out of course on the Internet for reviews...

A friend was the pastry Chef there a long long time ago. She had gone to CIA and they recruited her right in. Not sure if she is still there since she broke up with my friend right after that

Thanks everyone. After much research (including the bedbug registry!) I think we are going to stay in Westbury since the Hilton Garden Inn there was just renovated. Do you think that's a long trip?

P.S. Avery, thanks for the link! I had to read carefully to see that they only have king beds for auction...we will need two beds. Very expensive place, at least if you pay the rack rate!

P.P.S. I had to search for "Garden City" to find the new location of my post! The thread seems sort of buried now in the NY timeshare area, and I'm thinking that most people from NY (who could give advice on the hotel) probably never check this area.

There were no tags added when you first posted it. I will add a few tags. Also if someone else is looking for information on a LI hotel they should be looking in the NY forum not in the cafe.

Thanks Frank. I think I got the info I needed anyway from all the people who I think would know best about this!!

Any idea if Westbury is a long drive from Garden City? I know it is farther away from the direction I'm coming from (I think).

Gee you make it sound like I do not know anything about the hotel, We used to go here to get a GC for our best friends who were married there. They used to go every year on there anniversary. The food here was great not sure how it is now.

Haha...No, I *meant* that you *were* one of the people who would know best about the hotel!! I just reread my post and realize that it sounded like I was saying, "Thanks for the info but I don't need it" when I was really saying "Thanks for adding the tags, but it looks like I got lots of information already anyway" (including from you!)
