I will be traveling to Hunter Mountain for the TAP NY beer festival this weekend. Anyone care to share any day trips in this area? Also I am looking to stop for lunch somewhere between Harrisburg and Scranton traveling up 81, any recommendations?

Was vaguely thinking about stopping at Mohegan Sun at Pocono downs for lunch.

Hunter is about 40 minutes north of town of Woodstock. Not what it once was in the 70s, but a cute town with shops and restaurants. Or if you want a cool nature outing, Howe Caverns is north, about an hour and 20 minutes according to Googlemaps.

Thanks. I will look into both and hope to do a review of the kaatskills mountain club for the forum while there.

I had a great time at Hunter Lodge for the TAP NY festival. The weather was cool but sunny. There were a lot of people but the line for any beer was less than 5 minutes. I kept mostly to the stout beers but ventured into some porter's and IPA's. My two favorites were Butternuts Beer and Ale Co's Moo Thunder and Brown's Whiskey Porter. There was plenty of free food. I didn't need to drive because we were staying onsite but I had a designated driver ticket day one and a regular ticket day two because I wasn't sure I could handle two day of 20+ 6oz samples. I dumped about 3 that weren't even worth wasting any space in my stomach or liver enzymes.

We did a day trip to Woodstock and enjoyed the afternoon. I thought about doing the Highest/longest zipline in North America but I wasn't quite dressed warm enough. Our days were in the upper 50's and the nights dropped into the low 30's.

That sounds fun. Do you have the website for next year? Where did you stay exactly?

Each day is only 4 hours and it goes pretty fast but if it were longer each day it might be too much beer at one time.

We stayed at kaatskillmtnclub.com on Hunter Mountain on an RCI exchange. Its a fractional but gets deposits. I used RCI points to get the week and the large studio with full kitchen was certainly adequate for 2 and only cost 18,000 points. The one bedroom was also available but it was 30,000 points and since we were only staying for 3 nights we decided to make due. I hate paying for the week and not staying the whole time but can't miss too much work and although the area and the mountain were very scenic, it was a little early in the season. I live outside of Baltimore and it seemed like the area was about a month behind in terms of blossoms and some trees were still in buds. it looks like it would be a nice place to ski too. We ate at the restaurant on site, Van Winkles and the food was good and more reasonable than I would have expected at a ski resort.

A couple people film their days at the festival for youtube beer review shows.
Here's one but there are others. The place is full of beer foodies. People walk around (including DH) with the list of brewers and beers and make notes about the flavors. I like going to brew pubs and getting the samplers and it was like that but with 200 different ones available.
