Wow my wife and I just got back from The Manhattan club it was fantastic. With an RCI exchange using BG points we were assigned to a one-bedroom Suite with 2 bathrooms on the 14th floor. The unit was wonderful it was clean and well maintained. We have no complaints of the unit or The Manhattan club. The only slight inconvenience was using the elevators in the afternoon. Using the back elevators did help. The weather was in the mid to high 70s except the last two days when the weather was in the mid-90s and there were no rainy days.
Our check-in was on a Friday and we booked an early flight to arrive at The Manhattan club in the morning so Friday was not just a check-in day. We prebooked a bike tour of Central Park which was approximately 2 hours. On Saturday we did a six hour walking tour of Manhattan. The tour included stops at Central Park, Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, SOHO, and The Financial District. The streets in Little Italy and Chinatown were blocked off and filled with vendors selling goods and foods. The streets were very crowded and it was fun taking in the atmosphere of the hustle and bustle of these 2 neighborhoods. Both tours were very good. They helped us in learning how to use the subway and gave us a lay of the land. I don't remember what we did on which day but here are a couple highlights from our trip.
1. We met Frank and Lawren in Brooklyn at a nice little Italian restaurant. Frank treated us to a five or six course lunch all Italian dishes. I don't remember all the dishes but my favorites were the rice balls, the pizza, and the pizza dessert.
2. We saw an off-Broadway play title Perfect Murder. It was in a small theater we were right up front with great seats. I had a hard time following the storyline and I am still not sure who committed the Perfect Murder.
3. We saw 2 Broadway musicals. The first one was The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at the Palace Theater in the first mezzanine in the first row. This musical had lots of energy, wonderful sets, and lots of colorful costumes. We had a smile on our face throughout the musical it was very enjoyable. We got those tickets by attending the 90 min. sales presentation which only lasted about 45 minutes. The second musical was Nice Work If You Can Get It at the Imperial Theater. Our seats were in the first mezzanine in the first row to the left. I believe this musical was to re-create what musicals were like in the 1930s. The costumes, the sets, the humor, and the music were wonderful.
4. We saw Zarkana Cirque du Soleil at Radio City Music Hall. My hands were sweating during some of the acts the performers were doing. It was a nice show with lots of activity going on all over the stage.
5. We went to the taping of The Late Show With David Letterman his guest was Alec Baldwin. It was nice to see a TV show being taped but now it is on our list of things to never do it again. All ticket holders were in the theater entrance in a cattle style holding pen for about an hour before going into the theater. There are lots of rules no sunglasses, no gum chewing, no hats, no cameras even turned off, no backpacks, cell phones must be completely turned off or no bathroom trips. There are several ushers acting as cheerleaders when you enter the theater encouraging you to clap continuously while the band is playing 2 songs.
6. With all the recommendations to Katz’s Restaurant we ate there and had a super good pastrami sandwich. Walking back to our room at about 11 o'clock at night a large rat crossed in front of us which made for interesting conversation between my wife and I.
7. The sales representative from The Manhattan Club recommended we eat breakfast at the Brooklyn Dinner. This is where Jerry Steinfeld has breakfast once or twice a week. We didn't see Jerry but we had a very good meal.
8. On a recommendation by Walt we ate at the Redeye Grill across the street from The Manhattan Club. We did this after one of the shows and it was a nice way to cap off the evening. The wait staff, the atmosphere, and the food were very good. I had a steak ($50) and it was the best steak I can remember ever having. If you didn't want a steak you could have a $27 hotdog.
9. A few years back Lawren lost a fantasy football bet and sent a cheesecake from Junior's. So after the show at the Imperial Palace we sat outside eating and watching people at Junior’s Restaurant. The raspberry and chocolate swirl cheesecakes were fantastic.
We did so much I can't even remember it all but here is a partial list of other things we did. Attended Sunday church service at St. Patrick's Cathedral, rode the carousel in Central Park, went to the 9/11 Memorial, did a tour of Radio City Music Hall, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, walked on the piano at FAO Schwarz, walked through Trinity Church....
