Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen`s Museum in Historic Tuckerton

Once known as the Barnegat Bay Decoy and Baymen’s Museum, the Tuckerton Seaport has evolved into a maritime village located along historic Tuckerton Creek in Tuckerton, New Jersey. Tuckerton Seaport’s 40-acre site includes 17 historic and recreated buildings connected by a boardwalk, a maritime forest and wetlands nature trail, two houseboats, a decoy gallery, a working boatworks building in which restoration of sneakbox designs of the Barnegat Bay occurs, a historic marine railway (currently under reconstruction), decoy carving workshops and the recreated Tucker’s Island Lighthouse. Daily demonstrators and traditional artists bring the Jersey Shore’s rich maritime heritage to life.

Has anyone been to Tucketon Seaport and Baymen`s Museum or The Dockside Cafe?
How far is Tuckerton from Marriott Fairway Villas Absecon via NJ Rt. 9?

Enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon drive to Tuckerton.

Went to The Dockside Cafe for lunch. Had fried shrimp, flounder and fries inside the restaurant with a window view of the water.

    Highly recommended!

Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum: Super Storm Sandy Update

      Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum

Is grateful for the community support and concern we have received in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy. In response to these concerns, we are relieved to report that the Seaport is still here despite significant storm damage to our site and buildings.

Tuckerton Seaport will reopen the second and third floors of the Visitor’s Center (gift shop, offices, and Jacques Cousteau exhibit), the original Hunting Shanty, and Tucker’s Island Lighthouse as soon as electricity is fully restored. Work to remediate the water damage on the ground floor of the Visitor’s Center is underway and that floor is expected to be usable within weeks. Remediation of smaller exhibit buildings, such as the decoy carving shops, will take longer but should be completed in time for the 2013 Season Opening.

The 40 acre site suffered water and wind damage, floating debris, and downed trees. High water crested about 18 inches inside the buildings on the boardwalk. Thankfully, the actual boardwalk and bulkhead do not appear to have suffered any storm damage.

Tuckerton and the Southern Ocean County Region will rebuild together.
