  • Sandy in south Jersey before even hitting land

    Mon 8 AM

Heavy wind and rain. Atlantic City has 20 ft waves, waves crashing on ferris wheel on boardwalk, new Revel casino's lower level parking garage flooded, mandatory evacuation yesterday, and the worst is yet to come. I live 1/2 hr from AC so I suppose we'll get what they get except for crashing waves. Flooding is supposed to be bad because of high tides and full moon. Also merging with western storm. It is 250 miles south of AC at present with 85 mph winds so landfall won't be pleasant. I hope all easterners are safe during this storm.

After the big wind storm we had on July 1, we had several trees removed after one fell on our car and one on our house so hopefully we won't have a repeat but we lost electricity for 7 days because of downed wires so I hope no repeat of that. It is just a wait and see situation.

    Hurricane Strength 1 CAT 36.8 N
    71.1 W Location NNW
at 20 mph Direction 85mph Wind 946mb Pressure

The storm has made the turn towards land. No going back now.

Winds are starting to get very heavy here in the lower Hudson Valley. It is the rain that will be the real beast as many towns in this area are prone to flooding. Last I saw we could get 8 inches in <24 hours with a full moon on tap.

Hoping everyone rides the storm out with ease.

Kay, for the first time ever, I saw the names of your 'two' towns on the weather map on TV...

I have already lost power 3 times this morning on south fork, eastern Long Island - just little blimps but this is not making me happy as we have a loooong way to go.

Got back from Cape Cod yesterday afternoon and so far nor much wind or rain here, but all limited access state (CT) highways are going to be closed as of 11 AM to all trucks and then all vehicles other than emergency after 1 PM. So far only 8,000 plus power outages in the state.

We are in SE MASS - about 30 miles from the beginning of the cape. Steady winds around 30 - a few more powerful gusts. Still hanging on to our electricity!!

We're in SE Mass ~ just North of RI border. Think we dodged a bullet. Lost power, but only for about an hour. Few tree limbs down, but not much more. Hope all friends in the NY/NJ/CT area stay safe ~ all areas.
