  • Tanglewood season onsale January 27th, Jackson Browne instead of James Taylor...

Jackson Browne will be playing on July 4th this year, James is nowhere to be found on the schedule. There are some interesting offerings, including Melissa Etheridge on June 21st, A Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration on June 22nd, and a live accompaniment to the original West Side Story shown onscreen in July. A fabulous classical array as usual, Tanglewood on Parade (Boston Pops) and film night with John Williams at the end of August (he's not getting any younger, I can't recommend this highly enough if you've never been to one).

Tanglewood is wising up, offering big discounts for the under 40 set, including free lawn tickets for 17 and under.

I heard that James Taylor is taking the year off from touring to work on a new album.

That makes sense, though Tanglewood is more of his "home" than a tour stop. I'm just glad it's not his health, or retirement.

You can read the rest on his website, but here's a bit:

THE BERKSHIRE EAGLE - James Taylor takes tour hiatus to focus on new album
        Oct 22, 2012

Written by: Clarence Fanto, Berkshire Eagle Staff

In a quest to complete his first new album of original songs in 10 years, James Taylor plans to suspend touring for the full year of 2013, hunkering down at his home and studio in the town of Washington to prepare for the recording project.

Taylor revealed his intention to take a break from the road during a conversation with The Eagle on Friday.

"I’m taking the year off, I’m not touring, I’m trying to write an album," he said.

Asked if that meant no Tanglewood appearances next summer, Taylor responded: "It’s difficult to play Tanglewood without booking at least a month of work, because I can’t pull my band together for one gig and have them miss out on other work. These guys need to fill their schedules if they can."

That's an interesting quote about his "band," bc I've seen him a couple of times there with just a pianist accompanying him, and I highly doubt he'd have trouble booking a decent pianist for Tanglewood...
