  • Hampton Terrace B&B, heart of Lenox, MA $299 for two nights between now and May 2014

Not good for summer Saturdays. This place is #1 or 2 on Tripadvisor and I've stayed here. Quite nice.

    The Destination
Once the summer home of America's Gilded Age royalty—and in the top 20 of National Geographic Traveler's 2009 list of 133 Destinations Rated—the Berkshires boast a bounty of "picturesque towns, arts offerings, and well-protected natural beauty," the magazine says. And right in the middle of Berkshire County sits Lenox, a town so lovely that great American author Edith Wharton built her home here. Also nearby is the Normal Rockwell Museum. Beyond cultural pursuits, the area brims with opportunities for outdoor adventure, starting with hiking and biking along the local sections of the Appalachian Trail.

    The Digs
Built in Lenox in 1897, Hampton Terrace Bed and Breakfast is an acclaimed inn just two hours from Boston. Its gilded touches are evident, from elaborate moldings and crystal sconces to vintage throw pillows and period furnishings. Continuously restored since 2000, the B&B also offers modern amenities like TV and complimentary wireless Internet. Your individually decorated guest room is outfitted with a queen bed, fireplace, and Jacuzzi tub for a romantic experience. Each morning, you'll greet the day with a buffet breakfast for two, which may include fare like pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, and seasoned grits.

"By far my favorite bed and breakfast—the breakfasts are delicious; the hosts are entertaining but unobtrusive; and the rooms feel like you are staying in a grand house. It's a gem!"

"Thank you for the most amazing sleep I've gotten since March. Working on All My Children, I'm at the studio at 6 a.m., only to return home at midnight. Your home is so beautiful, so charming, so exquisite, and filled with such an amazing personal touch."

Thank you! This place sounds great! As much as I have enjoyed my timesharing, I actually perfer this type of travel! Yes, I am one of the odd few here that loves hotel type stays and we travel about 8 months a year so we stay at many hotels mostly in Europe and the Middle East. I GIVE my sister TONS of my usage in timeshare exchanges and she is having a blast. The old manor houses, beautiful old historical hotels in Europe with breakfast is the life for me.
Thank you Glitter for this recomendation! I was in Lenox years ago and I love this area of Ma.

This location can't be beat if you want Lenox central. Our room was in the separate building out back and was on the small side but we booked last minute. These rates are a real discount in season, even without the Saturday night.

There's a place in Lee that is my favorite B&B in the area - check out Federal House Inn - it's newly redone and in a beautiful setting, and their breakfast is hot cooked full on gourmet.

And I agree with you - sometimes hotels/B&Bs work very well. It's not often that I would spend a full week in the Berkshires, and there isn't much there for the kids to do so we don't need timeshare space. BUT I do really love the Ponds at Fox Hollow (also great Lenox location, though units are dated) and Oak n Spruce is serviceable.

wish I could treat my son and his wife to this, they have no babysitter for the toddler.

When we were in that area it was about 13 years ago and we stayed at the Ponds at Foxhollow. It was a lovely peaceful resort! I really enjoyed wandering the grounds early in the morning.
