  • Cape cod and Berkshires

going to start searching for september. We stayed in Mashpee in Cape Cod and I thought i would like to stay further up the cape as we never explored that area (it rained 4 days in a row all day). I only see Brewster Green as a decent choice (and harbor House in Provincetown) Are there any other resorts people familiar with the area would recommend.

We stayed at Oak and spruce two years ago. It was a good location, we visited museums and historical homes. If we stayed in Bently Brook or Vacation Villages, would we be close to anything?

I stayed in Vacation Villages. It's out of the way to most things. It's near the Jimminy Peak ski resort.
The resort was nice though and if you don't mind driving to go everywhere then it's a nice place but I'm sure others will chime in with closer options.
The GPS can't find this resort and put us about 2 miles away from it everytime I used it.
At least it got us into the general vicinity.

    I also stayed at Stonegate.
I liked the location but the building is a turn of the century mansion converted to a timeshare so exchangers usually get the worst units.
I got lucky and got the front porch unit but I heard others complaining about their unit while there.

I stayed on the cape at Smugglers Cove on the beach.
I liked the location but the units are small converted motel rooms with no washer & dryer.
They do have washer & dryers on site though upstairs that you can use.
It's a quiet resort next to a public beach.
They also have an indoor pool.

I also stayed at Cape cod holiday estates.
I don't recommend it as it's too far into the woods and needs updating.

And lastly I stayed at The cove at Yarmouth.
It's not on the water but is in the center of the little town.
The units were updated and all townhouse style units with a loft bedroom upstairs.

Bentley Brook and Vacation Villages are not close to anything, the Ponds at Foxhollow might be a much better location. As to the Cape, it depends on what you want to do. We stayed in Falmouth earlier in the year and liked it, tho we drove almost 30 miles each way to go to dinner at our 2 favorite Cape restaurants. I would think mid cape would be ideal, so Brewster sounds pretty good.

Bentley Brook and Vacation Villas are closer to North Adams than Ponds at Fox Hollow or Oak n Spruce - North Adams has the Mass MOCA museum, and is near Williamstown, The Clark museum, etc. You won't find much new to do from Ponds than there was from Oak n Spruce, they are pretty close together. Oak n Spruce is an easier exchange, Ponds is closer to the heart of Lenox.

Harbor Hill in Provincetown is very nice if you don't mind a lot of stairs. PTown in September should be nice - things to do but much quieter than in prime season.

Bluegreen took over management of two CC resorts, the Breakers and Soundings. Have heard good things about both from people who have visited. Both are on the ocean. Ocean Club at Smugglers Cove has been gut renovated since Chris' visit, small 1 BR good for two and is also on the ocean. Indoor pool a plus for CC, not sure if Breakers and Soundings have that.

Agree that Oak n Spruce location is very good...was just there in May for a repeat visit.

We plan to visit my son between the Berkshires and cape cod. A week would be too long. wondering if you have recommendations of places to go in southern vermont and new hampshire. thought is we could head north to vermont after check out in Berkshires, and the head east and back south to pick up 495 in Mass., spending two or three nights in hotels. Like historical sites and nature areas.

Visit the White Mountains in NH. Great scenery. I like the Lincoln area and if you get there go to Clark's Trading post for half a day and don't miss the Bear show.
Motels in the area are somewhat expensive tho.

we just got a match for a one bedroom at Ocean Club at Smugglers Beach for Oct 4, but when I read the tug reviews, it really sounds like a studio. So I wonder if we should take it, or keep looking.

                      Hi -
I just saw this thread. A friend is looking for Cape Cod for Sept 28. Is there much chance of getting a unit at Brewster Green?
Thanks for your insights. I have never searched for this area before.

                      - Maria

That's near the end of Leaf Peeper season and the only chance would be a late deposit.

                          Thanks, Tony.
I'll keep an eye out, but have set up an ongoing search to include several resorts.

                          cheers,
                          Maria

Oops, just noticed my typo on Cape Cod above, but can no longer edit.

I used to own there and have visited the resort
It has been totally renovated. It is direct oceanfront so this for me wins hands down over a larger inland unit. Ask for a second floor unit for best view.
The unit is entered from a common hallway into the bedroom/bathroom area. You walk thru the bedroom into the living room/kitchenette area. It is quite open, larger then a studio but not a sleep 4 private.
For 2 people, it would be nice with a great location to access other areas of the cape as well.

                              thanks pat
i did not realize it would be leaf season, or perhaps past leaf season at the time. What kind of weather expectations can I have, will it be cold already?
