NYC Hotel suggestions

There will be a group of 8 of us (adults) travelling to NYC in September. I'm not familiar with the city but some of the group would like to stay in the Times Square/Theatre district (I think that's right). We won't be in the room much so bells and whistles aren't important. But, we would like a clean, decent place to stay in the area mentioned above. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would suggest using Priceline for that area

Probably not a good choice for this trip, but the Chelsea Pines Inn is a great kitschy b&b. Next time you're on your way to 'THE' city, give them a try: http://www.chelseapinesinn.com/
