Well, no Presidential Unit this time. I must say the two bedroom Lodge unit feels quite small by comparison! Still, we have a nice brook view from the balcony, though the downside is that the spot attracts a lot of picnickers - so there are some noisy large groups out there often from lunchtime through dusk/dark. I imagine this wouldn't be so bad if not prime summer.

While I'm not thrilled with the small unit, Silverleaf has stepped up their service incredibly. We called for a new coffeepot (old one was gross) and to fix the overhead (super noisy) and maintenance and housekeeping were both at our door within 5 minutes. Maintenance took down the fan and completely rebalanced it, then tried hard not to accept the tip I insisted on giving him, but rather asked that I leave it in the housekeeping envelope at the end of the week to be shared with the staff. They've also been very gracious about scheduling midweek housekeeping on Tues/Wed/Thurs instead of checkout Friday (we are staying more than one week and don't have to switch units, something else they worked hard at for us).

So here are some pros and cons:

Pro: Location. This is a great spot from which to launch a good Berkshires long weekend or vacation. THIS is the reason I come back.
Service. Much improved, as per above
    Pretty grounds
Nice mini-golf course for the kids. They would prob also like the rec room.
Limited food available in the rec room - hot dogs, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, etc. Mostly kid food, nothing fancy, but better than nothing.

Cons: NO WIFI in the units. Wifi is available in the main building, but it is noisy and crowded in there.
STAIRS. I have always been put in a third floor unit, which is actually six flights of stairs up. I don't complain because it's better than having a family above us, which brings me to another con in terms of shoddy construction allowing noise from other units. If you really can't do stairs, ask for a handicapped unit, but they are few and far between so please really need one.
BEDS: really hard. For this stay I had a foam mattress topper shipped up there. No joke. On the plus side, the front desk was kind enough to have it sent right to my room so it was there waiting for me (to my excellent service point above).
BUGS: there are a ton of mosquitoes here - they really need some zappers and other mosquito control, especially outside the units. The outside lights attract the mosquitoes and they come flying in as soon as you open the door. This has been a particularly buggy stay, even Tanglewood has been a bit buggy at night.
CELL SERVICE: Really spotty here. A problem in the area generally, but very bad in places at the resort, including at checkin building where they will often offer to call your cell when your room is ready. Which brings me to...
CHECKIN: Checkin is very slow here compared to most resorts I've stayed in. Lots of 'splainin to do, stuff to sign, etc. A LOT of people checking in at once, only a few agents to check everyone in. They could def benefit from stepping up available staff and computers for checkin days/times.
POOLS: The main pool is so crowded in prime summer it's worse than the public city pool in uptown NYC. They really need to add more pools to accomodate all the extra units that were built after the first ones went in. The "presidential" pool is very small, but if you are lucky enough to get a presidential unit that gives you access, that pool doesn't seem as bad, though it was the weekend before prime season when I last saw it.
PETS: Clearing up any potential confusion to date, the resort is absolutely enforcing its "no pets for RCI'ers" rule. Personally, I find it discriminatory against exchangers, and the resort needs to do a better job about communicating that to guests, but that's the story.

Thanks for the update. I recently had my second stay (may 2013 and late June 2009) and also had some comments.

Your unit can really color your opinion of this resort.

I have seen the presidential units and they are VERY nice.
My friend and I checked out the building you are in and you are right, they are small. We stayed across the parking lot from you and the units were definitely bigger, both bedrooms a nice large size and the combo living/dining/kitchen ran front to back - a very nice layout BUT we just looked at the back of some other units up a hill. We were on the second floor - if we had been on the first, we would have been looking at a 10 foot retaining wall, really!

For my first stay, we were in a section of the resort that that was 2 story town house style. It was definitely a 'Motel 6" compared to all the other units we had seen. It had a full bath on the first floor and a second full bath on the second floor hallway shared by the two bedrooms. When we checked in for our second visit, we made it clear we would NOT stay in that unit type and if we had an issue with the unit we would be back. Hence, we were pleasantly surprised with our spacious, clean unit.

I do not know how as an exchanger you can guarantee placement in a Presidential Unit but they are really nice units.

There is no way to guarantee a Presidential unit with a two bedroom exchange - owners get preference and there's a whole "Presidential" program at Silverleaf. So off-season there's a chance, but in prime season very rare. I was absolutely shocked to get one the week of 6/16, but that is a few weeks before prime season really hits.

I remember a unit in Branson by same company. In the bedroom you had to use the tub as a side table and the light over the tub on if you wanted to read. no closet and no drawers, and about 4 hooks to either hang your clothes or your wet towels as there was no real bathroom. and the silverware wasn't in a drawer, it was on top of the tv or something like that. and the hikes up the many flights of stairs.

Yes, that sounds like our unit, right down to the tub edge nightstand and light situation! The lack of storage space is pretty bad but we are managing by using an empty corner in the second bedroom for stuff. Silverware is in a tray in a hidden broom closet next to the fridge. There is a semi closet built along the bath wall with a few drawers. And the master bedroom has a tiny WC with all else out in the open. We use the second bathroom mostly.

It is indeed a strange set-up!
Glitter, I thought I took a photo of the resort map on my iphone but I did not.
What are the number of the buildings across from you? And there are other buildings that are the same 'style' as those up the hill a bit....it would be good to know those building numbers for others to request when they visit. As you said, presidential is a roll of the dice but the ones across from you should be easier to get.

I will get them - they are in the 30s but not 34 35 36 - those are presidential. BUT they also look like they would get more pool noise, no? Also Lodge units "up the hill" are pretty easy, too, but I'd avoid the ones that back onto the pool, unless you have kids in which case that'd probably work

I think I stayed in that place too.
                    Silverleaf Holiday Hills.
The stupidest bathroom layout yet with the huge tub right next to the bed.
                    What were they thinking?
I guess they weren't thinking it seems.

Ok, the building across from ours is 33. The units are obviously larger even from the outside. I had to leave this morning so couldn't get the other numbers but I will at some point. There are what look like two other buildings like that beyond it - I am guessing 31 and 32 but will confirm. I may also have access to a map, can't seem to find it just now though.

Yup, we were in 33. And then there are two of the same units behind and above that one, on the hill. One definitely overlooks the pool and so the other would be more desirable for a July August stay. Rest of the year it would not matter. Second and third floor of those buildings would be nice overlooking a view.
The map is in the little check in book they gave you. If u get a chance, pick up another.
On the second floor of 33 we had great cell service using Verizon I used my iPhone as a hot spot.
