Nice! I thought they were fine before, but agree it was probably a bit dated given what Gurney's like to charge for those rooms. Maybe the Manhattan Club will follow suit... or pigs might fly....

Looks like it went from Silver Crown to Gold Crown on RCI as well.

Now I'm depressed because I will never be able to stay there again. Sigh.

Really glad the lobby has redone. The rooms weren't too bad, but the lobby was awful!

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

It's going to stop being a timeshare. I only got to go there once.

What do all the TS owners think of that???

It is very difficult to dissolve a TS. I can't imagine they would be able to get all the owners to agree and I can't see the Monty family buying everyone out.

This has been brewing a long time over there. I would gather that the "board," after garnering a majority of deeds owned by the developer family, voted to buy the remaining owners out. Just guessin.

                      Yep:

"As part of a plan approved by the timeshare owners, the new owners will buy out timeshare holders' leases and shares within the next five years. The timeshare owners were given three options for selling their shares, according to documents they received."

And the Monte's finally caved and sold. Which is the only way this place was getting a refurb.

It's a complicated story, but basically the Monte family owned a controlling percentage of shares. They drove up the maintenance fees year after year, so high that timeshare owners couldn't afford to keep paying, so the owners started turning their timeshares (which had cost a fortune originally) over to Gurney's again.

The Montes/Gurney's took back as many as they could get, of course.

Some owners fought back and brought the dealings to the NYS Attorney General's office. Eventually the ts owners and the Montes reached an agreement where the owners had a few different options--I think one was that they could keep their timeshare for five more years maintenance free, but then at the end of that time, the ts would go back to the Montes.

Really quite a story. Sorry I'm not clear on all the details.

I honestly felt that they were going to turn it into a quarter share.

In many cases, the property at these old timeshare resorts is worth more than the resort itself.

The summer owners never want it to end which is understandable, but the resort can't sustain itself when a large part of the owner base isn't paying anymore.

I don't know about Gurney's, but some of these properties were built 40 or more years ago and are falling apart. I think we will see more of this in the future where the property values are high. Some of these old places need to go.
