  • Megu: 40% off seven course Omakase at one of NYC's top Japanese, good thru 9/12/14

We did this for DS' girlfriend's graduation dinner last week and it was one of the best omakase meals we've had anywhere. The room itself is something to behold if you've not been there. NOte that the Omakase deal is only good for the sushi bar, but a few of the earlier courses are cooked (the asparagus is insane).

We've done the three course meal in the past, and some other seven course offerings here, but the current one is really great. It's still expensive, but for a special occasion it's worth it if you like sushi. Not for picky eaters, "omakase" means "I'll leave it to you," or "chef's choice." There are no substitutions, but the chef will ask you in the beginning if you have any allergies. The sushi course is served piece by piece, it's a luxurious experience. In it's heydey, Megu was a hot spot for (expensive) gourmet Japanese (like Nobu was), but the economy has made it difficult for them to fill the place without these specials.

I think they will too, my DS and his GF are still talking about it. I hope he's learning that it pays to date someone I like

Yes the Tribeca location is, I think, the only location that's offering these. I'm glad they went, it really was fabulous. I'mthinking about getting another, but afraid we may not get to use it before it expires.

DJ - send me your dates again -

There are also some other really excellent sushi places if you don't mind shelling out for a special meal - the price for sushi omakase at Sushi of Gari is about on par with this, though it's fewer courses and the space not nearly as luxe, but really fabulous preparation. We prefer the Upper West Side location but midtown is fine. Sushi Yasuda (midtown east) also serves up incredible sushi/sashimi, but prepare your wallet. You will need a reservation, even for one at the sushi bar. Makes a good lunch spot if you're the east side and want to visit Grand Central and the Chrysler Building, and you can catch the subway to the Brooklyn Bridge from Grand Central.

This sounds really good. I wish it could be extended to mid Nov. though. I just can't see myself make a trip to NYC before then...
BTW Glitter, did you do the Seven course?

Yes, Lisa, I did the seven course last week! The only change in this new menu is we had kobe beef skewers instead of the new salmon preparation, which I expect is a seasonally driven change. If history is any indication, there will be another deal good through mid-November - I will try to remember to post to alert you.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
